Disneyland Delays Reopening Due to Covid-19 Surge In California

Walt Disney has announced a delay to the reopening of theme parks and resort hotels in California, following a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state in recent weeks.

A previously announced phased reopening for Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park was scheduled for July 17. But now the State of California has indicated that it will not issue theme park reopening guidelines until sometime after July 4, the statement on Twitter says. Once the guidelines are released, Walt Disney still has to coordinate bringing thousands of workers back. So for now they cannot issue a firm reopening date. Both parks have been closed since mid-March.

The Downtown Disney District is still scheduled to reopen on July 9 with new health and safety protocols. Internationally, Disney has already reopened resorts in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando is also set to reopen on July 11, Tokyo Disneyland Resort is reopening on July 1 and Disneyland Paris is reopening on July 15.

Splash Mountain Re-theme

In addition to the news about a delayed reopening for Disneyland, we also learned this morning via the Disney Parks Blog that Splash Mountain at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World will be rethemed to Princess and the Frog.

“Today we are thrilled to share a first glimpse of a project Imagineers have been working on since last year. Splash Mountain – at both Disneyland park in California and Magic Kingdom park in Florida – will soon be completely reimagined. The theme is inspired by an all-time favorite animated Disney film, “The Princess and the Frog.” We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.”

This had been rumored for a long time and many fans have been asking for it too, so it’s nice to see the day has finally come. Princess and the Frog is a great story that will breathe new life into the 30+ year old attractions.

  1. So Disney caved in to the radical extremist PC crowd in renaming the ride. Another reason I will NOT be going there anytime soon with my family. Sick and tired of a few dictating how the rest of us live. Complete BS !!!! Disney you just lost a customer who has spent tens of thousands of dollars in 4 of your parks over the years
