eBay has a ton of gift cards on sale today. This sale stacks with a targeted 3X eBay Bucks promotion, plus you should be able to earn up to 4% cashback through a portal and 5X Ultimate Rewards for purchases from PayPal Digital Gifts with a Chase Ink card. Let’s breakdown the savings:

  • 3X eBay Bucks: (Make sure to activate this promotion before purchasing if you were targeted.)
  • 4% iConsumer Cashback (Limit $20 per month) or 1.5% from Shop At Home
  • 5X Ultimate Rewards when paying with a Chase Ink card

One of the better deals eBay has is a $110 Staples eGift card for $100 with a limit of 3. If you purchase 3, then here is how the math breaks down.

  • Cost: $300
  • 6% eBay Bucks: -18
  • 4% portal cashback: -12
  • Total cost: $270
  • Total value: $330
  • Discount on face: ~18%

You will also earn 1,500 Ultimate Rewards points for this purchase (if you pay with a Chase Ink) which I sort of see as a wash since you would earn those anyway at Staples. Of course you also earn 5X Ultimate Rewards on all of the other gift cards sold by PayPal Digital Gifts, so it definitely should be part of the calculation.

  1. Am I the only one not willing to provide my SSN to a cash back site for $20 cb/mo cap at 4%? TCB is at 1.5% so this is effectively 2.5% more with a $800 cap. Unless I’m missing something here, I’m honestly shocked people would give their SSN out like Halloween candy for a wishy-washy cash back site that’s had rates and caps fluctuate more than the Chinese stock market over the last month.

    @ Kevin I still received the bonus offer on my accounts.

    If you’re reselling, the margins on these cards are pretty slim. In my case I’m in the midst of meeting minimum spend on my INK card so it’s worthwhile when stacked with the ebay bucks multiplier.

  2. First I’ve heard about “PayPal Digital Gifts” and the fact that it qualifies for 5x points with Chase Ink. That could be helpful for me since all the Office Depots in my area have almost totally stopped selling gift cards when using a credit card to pay (they’ve had a huge problem with cc fraud).

    Has the 5x points when using the Ink card already been verified?

    one (1) month ago even though no changes were made to my communication preferences. 🙁

  4. Thanks, but it seems like a lot of hoops to jump through for *up to* 18% off a Staples GC. I think I’ll wait for a 20% off sale.
