Extend the Life of Your Marriott 7 Night Certificate Online!

Extend the Life of Your Marriott 7 Night Certificate Online!

A lot of people took advantage of Marriott’s Flights and Nights package last year in order to get the Companion Pass before that loophole expired.  I imagine a lot of you are still sitting on that 7 night certificate.

There a couple of things you can do with those certificates.  You can attempt to quickly use them, you can call to extend them, or you can get some of your points redeposited and cancel it.  Those were the options until Shawn decided to find a better way and got his certificate extended online.  No human interaction needed…Shawn’s favorite way to get things done :).

How to Extend Your Marriott 7 Night Certificate Online

Shawn’s resistance to call anyone is our gain.  He contacted Marriott through their contact us link (you have to be logged in for full access).

He then selected “Marriott Rewards – managing account” from the drop down menu.

Shawn filled out the comments section saying that he had an expired certificate and he was told to contact them to get it extended when it was near or just after it had expired.

He received a response within a few hours saying that his certificate had been extended until February 8, 2019 and he should see it in his account within 15 minutes. She informed him that he needed to use it by that date.  I have heard of people extending it for a second year but I wouldn’t count on it.

Conclusion

If you have been sitting on an expiring or expired 7 night certificate because you were dreading making the phone call then you don’t have to wait any longer.  Get on Marriott’s website and go through their contact us page and fill out your request.  You should get a response by sometime tomorrow.

My certificate was expired on 2/2/2018, did not even notice that, until I read your article.

How Shawn even fugured it out that he can do this:)

You guys saved me a ton!!

  2. I got the Marriott 7 night certificate last March with the southwest 120,000 point package. I just booked 8 nights (converted Starwood points to Marriott 1:3) to upgrade to category 8 hotel in Maui for August this year. I won’t be able to use Southwest points and companion pass this year but I am able to use AA mile saver awards 20k each way from BDL to OGG so 80k miles – 10% refund miles with AA credit card so 72K miles total for 2 people. Sorry if too long, just want to show what is possible.

  3. Thanks for the idea, this is useful. Do you know if we were to extend it by 1 year now and then still not be able to use it, would we be able to trade it in for points in early 2019?

    • I honestly don’t know – I would guess so but if you don’t think you will use it just go for the points now imo.
