First Tech Federal Credit Union Checking Account Bonus
Doctor of Credit reported about a First Tech Federal Credit Union checking account that doesn’t look all that interesting on the surface. But, if you dig a little deeper this is an account people who “increase spend” a lot should look into.
Details on the Deal
First Tech Federal Credit Union has the following offer until 4/30/18:
- Open a Dividend Rewards checking account and get a $100 bonus after setting up direct deposit within 60 days.
- They do not have a minimum deposit specified.
- There is also a savings account bonus
- $150 bonus when you transfer $15,000 into your account within 10 business days. You must maintain that balance for 90 days
- $250 bonus when you transfer $25,000 into your account within 10 business days. You must maintain that balance for 90 days
There is no way to fund the account with a credit card and they are reported to be ChexSystems inquiry sensitive. I was able to get the account a year or so ago (I signed up without a bonus) and I didn’t have an issue and I apply for quite a few bank bonuses.
DoC also warns that they do a hard inquiry. This is based on one data point and I don’t remember having a pull when I signed up. Although it is something to consider and be cautious of.
Why This Account is Worth Getting
New account bonus aside, which is okay but not great, this is an account anyone who has a lot of “checks” to deposit should consider. First Tech Federal Credit Union Co-Ops with other credit unions so you can use their ATM fee free. Many of these Co-Op ATMs also allow “checks” to be deposited at the ATM for your First Tech account.
First Tech also has mobile check deposit. Be cautious with this since people have run into trouble if they use it too often. I would suggest only using it if you are having an issue at the ATM etc.
You can check ATM’s near you here. Just select locations and highlight Co-Op. Make sure there are a couple because not all ATMs will have the check deposit feature.
Conclusion
This is not an offer for everyone, especially with the potential for a hard pull. But for a certain group of people out there that are looking for another friendly bank to diversify deposits, this is an option that should be seriously considered.

Mediocre bonus and Schwab debit already covers ATM’s all ATM reimbursements (including international). Doesn’t seem worth the hassle.
Ramzi it isn’t worth the hassle unless you do the things I describe in the article. If you don’t then it is just a below average bank bonus.
