Flair Airlines Adds Halifax & Montreal Routes From Windsor
If you live in southern Michigan or northern Ohio then there are a few new routes launching that you may be interested in. Flair Airlines, a low cost carrier in Canada, has added two new routes out of Windsor, Ontario’s airport (YQG). The airport that sits just across the river from Detroit. These new routes are to two popular destinations and can be insanely cheap, especially when comparing it to nearby Detroit’s airport.
UPDATE: It appears Flair is at risk of being grounded in May because regulators think it may not be Canadian enough. Thanks to reader Jason for the heads up.
Flair Airlines is adding routes from Windsor to Halifax and Montreal starting this summer. The prices are supposed to average around $29 one way. Just like comparable low cost carriers Spirit & Frontier in the US, they will charge extra for seats and bags. But, if you play it right it could be an insanely inexpensive trip.
According to CTV News Windsor the flight schedule will be as follows:
- The flights to Montreal will be $29 dollars in each direction, departing Thursdays and returning Sundays, starting July 7, 2022.
- A Windsor to Halifax flight will be $29 dollars there and $49 to return, departing Fridays and returning Monday, starting July 8, 2022.
I did some price checking myself and I was not seeing prices quite this low but they were substantially less than what I saw out of Detroit’s airport (DTW). The prices looked to be in the $30 – $60 range one way during the summer. However, I did see quite a few $22 flights in the fall shoulder season.
When compared to flying direct out of Detroit, on the same dates, the price difference was pretty substantial. Enough so that driving a little bit further to Windsor would make sense. I also imagine the airport experience would be smoother since you would go through customs when driving across the border versus doing it at the airport.
Windsor’s airport has long been a hidden gem for people in the area. Often offering flights at a substantial discount versus flying out of Detroit’s airport, which is only about 30 minutes away. Most people overlook it because of the border crossing required and the closure during the pandemic made it impossible to use too. With the border open again it is worth checking out before booking anything out of the area.

Wasn’t aware of that – thanks. I’ll add it in.
Did you mention that Flair may have to shut down on May 2 and lose it’s license?
