Flying Blue Free Stopovers on Air France and KLM Awards
Stopovers are a valuable “trick” for award travel, but are quite rare nowadays. When allowed, you can add an extra stop to your itinerary for little or no cost. Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan and Air Canada Aeroplan are two popular examples where stopovers are allowed.
But soon Air France-KLM Flying Blue will join them. The news was announced during a webinar for Flying Blue members in Europe, and was first reported by One Mile at a Time. The airline says it plans to introduce free stopovers on award tickets, but doesn’t provide much regarding details.
However it sounds like free stopovers will be available on any available one-way award flight, and not just the highest priced ones or round-trips. This would make it a much better value and add lots of value to the Flying Blue program. It’s not clear if free stopovers will be allowed on partner awards as well.
Air France-KLM Flying Blue is already a solid program especially for transatlantic business travel. Additionally, Flying Blue is a transfer partner for all major currencies such as American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou, and Capital One Miles.
