Fontainebleau Las Vegas Opening Date Rumor & Room Pictures

Fontainebleau Las Vegas is a building that everyone who has visited Las Vegas during the past 15 years will be familiar with. Long the biggest eyesore on the strip, the high-end resort, a sister property of the famous Miami Fontainebleau, will finally open its doors in December after many ownership changes and financial struggles. We even have a Fontainebleau Las Vegas opening date rumor to report as well, but let’s take a look at a little history of the storied project.

Fontainebleau Las Vegas History – The Biggest Eyesore

Following a bankruptcy and the halt of construction in 2009, the property was quickly sold to Carl Icahn for $106 million. He stripped the property, sold off everything he could and then sat on it until he sold it for $600 million in 2017 to Witkoff Group who planned to partner with Marriott on the new project called The Drew Las Vegas.

Unfortunately that project stalled out and the building was left sitting there for several more years without any progress. Then in February, 2021 Koch Real Estate Investments purchased the massive complex for $350 million and partnered with the original developers to bring the Fontainebleau name back to the Strip. Fast forward a few more years and we are almost at opening!

Fontainebleau Las Vegas Room Pictures

One of the cooler aspects of covering Vegas every week on our MtM Vegas YouTube show is getting to hear from the people who build this great city. Thankfully one of those awesome people sent me a ton of pictures from inside the Fontainebleau Las Vegas rooms now under construction. In these photos we can see a lot of details of what we will get when the project is completed.

At opening Fontainebleau Las Vegas will contain 3,644 rooms and suites spread across its 737 foot tall tower. Among these will be a variety of suites with different layouts and designs. Standard rooms clock in at around 490 square feet, which is a little on the small side for this level of property in Las Vegas. Thankfully the rooms do have separate bathtubs and showers, a staple of luxury properties in Vegas and beyond.

Fontainebleau will compete in the Las Vegas luxury market against competitors like Wynn, Venetian and Bellagio, however its closest comparison is probably Cosmopolitan. As you can see, the decor is modern with a lot of blues and grays and some interesting pieces of art scattered around. The views appear to be spectacular as well with many rooms having a great perspective of the new Sphere.

Fontainebleau Las Vegas Opening Date Rumor

Previously Fontainebleau Las Vegas had confirmed the property would open some time in December, however they didn’t give any specific date. This would be after the city’s Formula 1 race, but before the crush of early January conventions like CES. Conventions are a big part of the strategy of this new Las Vegas Strip resort, so that timeline makes a lot of sense.

While we still have no confirmation, I do have a rumored Fontainebleau Las Vegas opening date for you. The same source who sent me the photos said the rumors on the job site say that the Fontainebleau Las Vegas opening date will be December 2, 2023. My source indicates it could be a “soft” opening with 75-90% of the rooms complete when the doors open. Recently Resorts World and Circa both opened in a similar way with many (or all in the case of Circa) of their rooms not completed on opening day.

Best Hotel in Las Vegas?

Regular viewers of the MtM Vegas YouTube show know that I believe Wynn Las Vegas is the best property on the Strip without any hesitation. Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas comes in at second for me, with both being very different experiences depending on your mood. I think Fontainebleau will slot in towards the top of the Vegas hotel scene along with Cosmo, but I don’t expect it will replace Wynn as the king of large hotels on the Strip.

Fontainebleau Las Vegas Rumor & Room Pictures – Bottom Line

While Fontainebleau Las Vegas has been confusingly quiet in hyping up their opening with leaks and information, thankfully we are able to provide you with some exclusive looks inside the newest property on the Las Vegas Strip. With opening just a few months away, it’s time to get excited for the newest megaresort in Las Vegas.

  1. The photos are not flattering at all
    Garish modern confused trash decor
No Wynn ,Cosmo or Aria maybe a tackier version of The renovated Waldorf Astoria who previously was a beautiful Mandarin Oriental
    That still may be nicer
Hopefully the name and local demand will save it but I’m not at all confident in its future. It needs Marriott or Hyatt partnerships or how are they going to fill that thing? The entertainment or restaurants would have to be amazing to even consider it.
The only winner here was Carl Icahn buying and selling it but he’s probably to old to spend it!
