Frontier Airlines Offering Miles for Your Travel Credits
Many airlines are trying to steer customers towards taking travel credit instead of refunds for cancelled flights. Now Frontier is going a step further, offering miles to some customers who have travel credits in their account.
Mark received one of these offers to exchange travel credits for Frontier miles by email. He has about $870 in credits (expiring on 6/10) and was offered 120,000 miles that would be valid for at least 6 months and beyond based on the email. The email says the miles will not expire before September 2020. One-way awards with Frontier start from 10K miles, so the email advertised this as up to 12 one-way awards.
A reddit user said that he was offered to trade about $150 in cancelled flight credit to 60,000 Frontier miles that also need to be used by September 2020.
Doesn’t look like there is a specific conversion rate that they are offering for your travel credits.
Conclusion
Frontier miles don’t get many people excited. I guess it is an option if you have expiring vouchers, but the miles also have an expiration date of September 2020 for now. From the language in the offer seems like that expiration can be extended.
Remember that airlines should give out full refunds on cancelled flights. If Frontier is not honoring that, then do a chargeback with your credit card issuer.
But going back to the miles, would you take Frontier miles or a voucher? Seems like a lose-lose situation to me. Let us know!

It’s not easy for most people to keep Frontier miles active because their non-flight options are very limited and not inexpensive. I certainly never have the time to take a 1-2 hour flight each way every six months just to keep miles alive. Moreover, buying miles every six months is no bargain — $25 is a lot for only 1000 miles on an airline for which it is difficult to use miles, especially near weekends which is the only time I can travel. And since most of us are not flying anywhere now on any airline, it will be especially hard to keep miles from expiring. I was hoping Frontier would step up and extend the expiration of miles at least for several months. I really don’t want to lose my 19000 miles.
Understand but at least to me $25 to keep miles alive for another 6 months is really cheap. I’m lifetime AA and DL but fly Frontier mainly CLT-PHL and CLT-LAS since I’m retired, have too much time and money on my hands, and like to gamble (PHL then train to Atlantic City). I can get PHL r/t for $75 and LAS for under $200 which means I will put up w a lot. Also can travel any day of the week to get lowest fare. iMHO I would gladly pay the $25 to buy 1000 miles if I were you since that would put you at 20,000 which is r/t free ticket. Definitely worth $25!
Their miles expires after 6 months but easy to keep them alive. I fly Frontier some for cheap 1-2 hour flights and had a few miles on the expiring in August. Not sure when I would fly them again so bought 3000 miles for $50 (2000 plus 50% bonus) which is 1.67 cent. Not great but not too horrible either. Checked and my account showed the 3000 miles and new expirations date of 10/1 for all my miles.
Just letting you know that if you do this and have 120,000 miles that are told expire in 6 months all it takes is ANY activity to extend all your miles (not just the 120,000) for 6 months from that day. Cheapest is buying 1000 miles for $25 (assuming no match). Bad value but worth $25 IMHO to keep miles worth multiple trips alive.
Also other purchase and transfer options but I know this works and is both cheap and easy.
