Hawaii to Remove Testing Requirement for Vaccinated Travelers
Hawaiian Governor David Ige said the state plans to allow non-essential travel for vaccinated tourists without the additional requirements of pre-travel COVID-19 tests. The change is expected to happen by the 4th of July holiday period.
“Now across the country, we’re getting to 40-50%, fully vaccinated. And we do know the CDC guidance that there’s little risk. We know that we have to get there, we have to be able to allow vaccinated travelers to come here transpacific because that will help us get more people back to work,” Gov. Ige said in an interview with KHON2.
Hawaiian officials are concerned however about not being able to tell who is vaccinated or not and the local population has not shown support for lifting the mandate yet. Governor Ige said he is hopeful the state can lift the current mask mandates by the middle of June, but won’t lift the restrictions until more of the community is vaccinated.
“We are emphasizing at the airports, as people come in, you know, there’s a lot of signage announcements being made that Hawaii does have a mass mandate and that people need to wear masks,” Gov. Ige said.

Given the way Hawaii has backtracked on almost every announcement they have made over the past 15 months, I wouldn’t hold your breath for this to occur.
Excellent news for us. We are going to HNL in late August. This is after two postponements. Thanks for the article!
