Free 1,000 HHonors Points Still in Limbo

A few weeks ago Hilton released a promotion offering 1,000 bonus HHonors points for people who logged into their account and either created or changed their password. This promotion was devised to help secure accounts in light of recent hacks at other loyalty programs.

Many many people including myself logged into their accounts and updated the password in order to earn the points. Hilton points aren’t the most valuable, however free is free and it only took about 30 seconds. Those are my kind of deals.

Later in the day I received the following from Hilton, “This change has not taken effect yet due to a technical issue on our end, so please tell your readers to hold on changing your password for right now.” After receiving this, I posted on the blog suggesting that people hold off. (Although it may still be a good idea to change your password to secure your account.)

The Update

Over the past few days quite a few people have asked me what is going on with this promotion, so I followed up with the rep who had sent me the original “hold” email. Unfortunately she told me that she has nothing new to share at this time. “Thanks for following up! At this time, I do not have any new information to share, but I will provide you with updates as soon as I receive them. ”

Conclusion

I can’t imagine what kind of system glitch would cause them to pull back this promotion, however at this point things are in limbo. If you want to take this further then you can always complain to HHonors to see if they will manually credit your account. Personally, I will continue to wait since Hilton is on the record about this promotion and thus I feel they will honor it eventually.

  1. Lemme guess – how about no internal control in place to prevent awarding 1,000 points every time your account password is changed?
