Hilton Honors Status Match 2019 – New Rules
One of my favorite ways to jump start elite status is through challenges and matches. In the past I have had great success enjoying benefits by matching status from program to program. Heck, Hilton at one point even matched me to Diamond a couple of years in a row!
While the Hilton Honors status match will remain, I have just been informed that the requirements will be changing a bit. Let’s take a look.
Hilton Honors Status Match 2019 – New Rules
Hilton is making some changes to their status match in an effort to “align with best practices across the travel space”. Here is how the new Hilton Honors status match will work:
- Every eligible member will be matched to trial Gold – there will no longer be an option for Status Match to Diamond tier.
- Complete 10 nights within 90 days, and your Gold status will be extended through March 31, 2021.
- Complete 18 nights within 90 days, and you will be upgraded to Diamond status through March 31, 2021.
Previously to keep Gold you needed 4 stays within 90 days and for Diamond you needed 8 stays. You can find the full details on the Hilton Honors Status Match page.
Analysis
Hilton clearly is making it more difficult to obtain status through their match by switching from stays to nights. For people qualifying with one-night stays this hurts, although for a businessperson that stays at the same hotel for a long period of time this could be a win.
Other Ways to Get Hilton Honors Status
As a reminder, Hilton Honors status is fairly easy to get without challenges. While I have relied on matches in the past, I now have Hilton Honors Diamond status from the Hilton Honors Aspire Card. You can also get Gold status from the Hilton Honors Ascend card (Learn More), Amex Platinum or through Founderscard.

Conclusion
Hilton has upped the requirements a bit for the Hilton Honors status match 2019 to better align with their competitors. For some this will be easier, although for many it may now take more nights and spend to lock in your status through 2021. With that said there are plenty of other ways to get Hilton status that I would pursue first.
