Hong Kong Disneyland Closing Again
Walt Disney World reopened in the United States just a couple of days ago. Gregg and I discussed the reopening on the Disney Hacks podcast this week as well. Disney is taking a lot of precautions, but there is some controversy about them opening at a time when Florida continues to have record positive tests.
To be fair, rival theme parks in Florida opened about a month before Disney, so they are hardly the only ones operating at this time. And they did do extraordinary things in the name of safety. From changing their operating procedures to installing plexiglass in some queues, the changes are drastic and significant.
Hong Kong Disneyland Official Closing Announcement
While Disney World works through its opening, another Disney park is going to close AGAIN. Hong Kong Disneyland reopened on June 18 after about five months of closure and it will close again on July 15, 2020. Here is the notice on their website:
Hong Kong Disneyland park will temporarily close from July 15
- As required by the government and health authorities in line with prevention efforts taking place across Hong Kong, Hong Kong Disneyland Park will temporarily close from July 15, 2020.
- The resort hotels will remain open with adjusted level of services. Enhanced health and safety measures that reflect the guidance of health and government authorities have been put in place, such as social distancing measures and increased cleaning and sanitization.
- We are in contact with health authorities and the government about the situation.
This new closure comes after a recent increase in cases including 52 new cases sprouting up today alone. As part of the changes social distancing measures will be tightened and many types of businesses will be forced to temporarily close for at least a week.

I think businesses that are forced to close due to new government regulations, should close and file for bankruptcy. Better to cut their losses now and perhaps come back when covid-19 is gone; and if covid-19 is never gone, oh well, it is what it is.

And WDW will most likely be following…
Disney is putting it’s reputation on the line by opening Disney World, especially given the backdrop of Florida just eclipsing 15k positive tests in a DAY. Yeah, I’m sure they will have buy in and because they are a private business they don’t have to deal with any Covid Karens. That said, it’s highly likely DW is next with the red light green light game. On that note, may be time to short their stock. ♂️
Wow this is surprising. Hong Kong doesn’t have that many cases. Of course, it’s full steam ahead here. So many differences. I wish we had their numbers. That’s all I can say.
Christine, it’s easy to see any state and country Covid cases. For Hong Kong google “covid cases hong kong” The spike is clearly indicated on the chart and the numbers are way up there.
