Hong Kong Will Drop COVID Restrictions on Thursday
Hong Kong has announced that it will cancel most of its strict COVID-19 rules starting on Thursday. The announcement comes from city leader John Lee, meaning that arrivals will no longer need to do mandatory PCR tests.
All measures would be cancelled on Thursday, including the vaccine pass and social distancing rules. The only requirement that will remain in place is the wearing of masks, Lee told a media briefing on Wednesday.
“The city has reached a relatively high vaccination rate which builds an anti-epidemic barrier,” Lee said, as reported by Reuters. “Hong Kong has a sufficient amount of medicine to fight COVID, and healthcare workers have gained rich experience in facing the pandemic,” he added.
Hong Kong is also aiming to reopen the borders with mainland China by Jan. 15 and has been working for months with authorities over the border to ensure an orderly re-opening.
The news comes as China has been easing COVID restrictions and announced that it will stop requiring inbound travelers to go into quarantine from Jan. 8.

We are traveling on Cathay Pacific in early February to Bangkok via HKG…Does anyone know if the draconian mask mandates on Cathay will be dropped by then? Dread the thought of 20 hrs with a face diaper
Lol @ masks.
3 years of data shows they do *nothing*. But, the theater continues.
