How to Combine Marriott and SPG Accounts and Should you Do it Now
You can now combine your Marriott, Ritz and SPG Accounts into one account/profile. Many people are a bit confused about this because they already linked accounts, but now you actually have to formally combine them into one account.

To get started, (on the very good advice of Greg at Frequent Miler) you should first take screen shots of everything i.e. both of your accounts, activity, points, qualifying nights etc. I don’t trust this process enough to leave it up to Marriott to get it right, so just make sure you cover yourself. Next decide which profile you want to keep, for SPG start here for Marriott click here . To be honest, I don’t understand why they are even giving the option. First, it seems crazy to me that they want you to choose. I assume you’ll continue to login at SPG which also seems odd to me and like another temporary transition. For this simple reason alone, I’m going with my Marriott account profile.

You’ll need your login information for both accounts and will be guided through the process. It should take less than 10 minutes to combine everything.
When Should You Combine Accounts?
If you will be elevated to a new level of status and you have a stay coming up, you should do it now so that you have no issues using your new benefits. Also, if you’re applying for any of the credit cards for the programs, I’d do it before that as well. In the past I’ve had issues with them accidentally creating new loyalty accounts for me that had to be merged with my existing accounts. It’s a huge pain.
Personally, I’m waiting until all of my issues are resolved in each program. My Marriott account is only showing 1 night year to date, which is crazy because I have the Marriott Business Card and I stayed at Atlantis in January and Cosmo in June. So I’m obviously missing information and don’t want to have to make multiple calls if they’re going to straighten themselves out. The biggest reason I’m waiting is because I can’t undo the process, but I should be able to combine whenever I want.
Last, if you plan on qualifying for status under the SPG program rules where stays count, I think you should wait because it’ll probably be easier to track in your SPG account.

Conclusion
There are definitely reasons to combine accounts and I will definitely do so at some point but I’m wary of the process and I do not want to have to deal with any other transitions in the future. Also, the wait times for anyone who has an issue are crazy and it’s just not pressing enough for me to rush into it. I’ll gladly wait until things are a bit more settled and I don’t have to sit on hold for more than an hour to resolve any potential issues.

Please Help! My Marriott acct is in my name. My SPG acct is in my husband’s name. Making it even more difficult, we have different last names but our address is the same. Is there any way we can merge accounts?
Thank you!
Well that’s very interesting! It’s in his name entirely? Or just his last name? And does he have his own account? Or you both share the two? Also, do you have a significant amount of night credits or points in both of the accounts?
Hi Bethany, The SPG account is in only his full name. It started with his SPG credit card. (I am the secondary name on the card.) The Marriott account was started with my Marriott cc. My full name. He is not a secondary on that card/account, and there’s no way I see to add it to my profile. The Marriott only has 577pts, the SPG over 132,000.
I have ritz card and SPG —-what status will I have with spg? Thanks
I combined by moving SPG to Marriott points BUT are used to get three Marriott points for every one SPG point.
They claim the combined point system is fair but nah, not for me. We expected some kinks to work out but, not getting 3x for transfers prior to this merger.
None the less I love both brands they treat us well. Starwood more bang for the buck but, it’s going to be OK
You didn’t get 3 Marriott Points for each SPG? Something happened there, you should definitely contact them. Keep us posted and good luck!
I combined both accounts to Marriott. Somehow I ended up with Gold Elite status. I don’t know what goes into the calculations, but I’ll take it.
Always nice to go up, especially when you didn’t expect it 🙂
I combined both accounts to Marriott. My reservations transferred (3) from SPG to Marriott with no problem. All my points as well. No problems here!
Glad to hear it!
