How To Get Targeted For The 20% Off Amazon Discover Card Offer

One of my favorite deals out there is the various 20% off Amazon deals with 1 credit card point.  We get them from Amex Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou points semi regularly. Last week a new one came out for Discover card and I was able to nab it on my account right away.

I checked my wife’s account to see if it was targeted right after but no such luck. There was no way I was giving up that easily though, here is how to get targeted for the 20% off Amazon offers.

The Workaround

My wife does not have a Discover card but I wanted to check to see if she was targeted anyway.  I checked the link but it said she wasn’t targeted. She doesn’t have a Discover card of her own but my Discover card is on her account, the same one I used to trigger the offer on my account.  I was a little surprised that she wasn’t targeted but noticed the pay with points feature was not activated.

I quickly activated the pay with points option and then let the account sit for a few days.  When I came back two days later and checked her account, voila she was targeted!

Another way to get targeted for the 20% off Amazon offers is to delete the card from the profile and then re-add it.  You can also add a new card to the profile and set it up with the pay with points option to get targeted.  That worked on my dad’s account in the past.

Conclusion

There are two takeaways from this:

  • If you weren’t targeted the first time it could be because you didn’t have a Discover card set up or didn’t have the pay with points option activated.
  • If you don’t have a Discover earning card you can use someone else’s to get the offer.

Give it a couple of days once you set it up and check again. Maybe check some family member’s accounts to get a few more deals in.  Hope this helps some of you that missed out the first time.

  1. Thanks Mark, that worked! I wasn’t eligible a couple weeks ago when I first added my Discover and forgot about it until I read this and was now able to activate it. What’s the general consensus to use the 20% on, more Netflix or grocery GC?
