HSBC World Elite Premier Card Benefits Changing On Jan. 1
If you have the HSBC World Elite Premier Card, you probably want to take a look at the changes it will undergo next year. While the email that was sent out to customers paints a rosy picture, the changes will be viewed as negative by most people. Let’s take a look at what you should expect starting January 1st.
HSBC Premier Card Changes
Here are the changes that are coming on January 1, 2021:
- The $100 travel credit will be replaced with a credit of up to $400. But this is how it will work. You get a $100 credit for every $2,000 spent via the HSBC travel portal.
- Instead of two airport lounge visits, you will get unlimited lounge visits for yourslef and a guest, every time you travel.
- Currently the card offers a $100 Lyft/Uber credit. This will be replaced with a $120 Lyft credit.
- You will receive a surprise Luxury Thank You Gift after you spend $50,000, $75,000 and $100,000 annually. You get up to three gifts per year.
- There is also a limited time offer to earn extra points. You’ll get 2x points Home & Health purchases, including: groceries, gas, healthcare, and pharmacy (up to a max combined spend of $3,000) from January 1, 2021 through June 30, 2021.
- Addition of Travel Services Medical Protection Insurance. Details will be provided once this is introduced I guess.
Conclusion
This seems like a downgrade, although you can get more value out of the card if you specifically need the benefits it provides. Most people will have other cards that give them lounge access. The Uber/Lyft credit could also be used on Uber Eats so it made it easier to maximize for those who don’t necessarily use ride shares. The $100 credit was am easy credit on any airfare, and now it will be a small discount.
