Miles to Memories $100 Giveaway

Miles to Memories continues to grow in tremendous ways. Since I love to give back, I thought I would hold yet another giveaway. It takes quite awhile normally for me to sort through entries for a giveaway, so this time I thought I would use a new service that will help with that.

All you need to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment on this post talking about your favorite travel hack. (Big or small, it doesn’t matter!) After leaving a comment, go to prize box below, verify the name you used to comment and it will enter you and unlock the ability to earn 4 more entries. (Note: You must enter through the drawing box in addition to leaving a comment or else your entry won’t be counted.)

While it is not required to gain an entry to this contest, if you are interested in keeping up with all of the content on Miles to Memories, make sure to subscribe to our once daily newsletter! We recently passed 1,500 subscribers! Subscribe here.

The Prizes

This time I am giving away a $50 American Airlines eGift card and a $50 Amazon eGift card. Each person can win only one of the cards and the maximum value of each prize is $50. The contest runs from now through Monday evening at 11:59pm Pacific!

Thanks again for supporting the site by visiting and reading. Have a great weekend!

  1. using the lounge before and after every flight (with a lounge membership), and stocking up on water and fruit that way

  2. Complement the check-in/gate agent and try to score an upgrade/better seat/better flight. All in good spirit, of course, and nothing too direct or inappropriate.

  3. Amtrak Select Plus, which can be earned with 10 round-trips from Washington to New York on the Acela in Business (or 7 r-t in First), gives access to all United Airlines Clubs (as well as the Amtrak Lounges).

  4. The Chase Hyatt CC which gives you Hyatt Gold Passport Platinum status just for having the card.

In fact, I signed up for the card based ON THIS WEBSITE’S RECOMMENDATION!

    So thank you, Shawn!

  5. My favorite so far has been the marriott/ritz points packages where you can get a ton of UA miles AND a 7-night hotel certificate… paid for one awesome 1st class trip with just 2 card bonus miles!!

  6. Before I got into this game (MS), it was airline credits. When I studied abroad, one of the pitstops was to Narita Airport where the plane had a “mechanic failure”… course this pissed off business travelers but as a frugal newly traveler, I was thrilled by the food and meal reimbursement.

  7. Not sure if it’s a hack, but the USO for military/retired is often as good as some of those costly airline clubs….

  8. My favorite travel hack is putting belongings from your pants into a lightweight jacket before going through security.. Makes transfer super easy

  9. I have a hard time meeting the minimum spend and just realized recently that I can pay my quarterly taxes by credit card. Even though there is a fee, it makes it possible to hit the requirement to get the bonuses.

  10. evreward, com and topcashback.com to get some extra miles/points whenever I’m booking a new reservation or buying something online.

  11. Schwab high yield checking debit card – nice to be able to get cash anywhere in the world (with atms:)) without atm fees.

  12. I use Bluebird checks to pay income and property taxes. And I love using Avios for short trips. Thanks for the contest!

  13. I just had fraud alerts on two of my seven cards at Case. Be sure to monitor your accounts and update your I D and passwords regularly.

  14. Meeting the Chase Mileage Plus minimum spend so I am exempt from United’s PQD requirement for status. Unfortunately, that will mean dropping from 1K to Platinum, but it’s worth it not to have to meet the PQD spend.

  15. My favorite travel hack is use a shower cap to cover your shoes when packing, so your dirty shoes won’t be rubbing all over your packed clothes.

  16. I received offers in two consecutive months for 15,000 bonus (US Air) AA miles for a minimum spend over 3 months of 750 each month. I did the spend over the total of 4 months to complete it for both offers overlapping and received 30,000 bonus miles!

  17. Calling Citi retention department to get bonus miles for keeping a credit card I was going to keep anyway!

  18. My Travel hack is to let my husband book the flights so he uses his points and it’s free :). Sometimes we get upgrades too

  19. Amex Sync offers (thanks again for the help with Smart and Final in Vegas).

Maps.me app – allows gps function w/o using data, great when traveling abroad.

Twitter – amex sync offers + limited time offers.

  20. United free oneway, especially when combined with a premium cabin award, so I get a free first class flight to anywhere in the US!

  21. Well, my favorite hack is one I probably wouldn’t do: by a refundable first class ticket, use the airport lounge for free, then return the unused ticket for full credit.

  22. Racking up Chase Reward points with sign up bonuses and various forms of MS – then figuring out where I am going to spend it all!

  23. Signing up for a cards from 2 airline cards knowing my sign up bonus would be 100,00 AA points when they merged. Also flying mid week.

  24. My favorite travel hack is to pack EVERYTHING you’re taking into ONE, stay-with-you-at-all-times bag.

Do not check ANY baggage and for the love of whomever…

Never, EVER, put your meds, second day clothing and alternate shoes into a checked bag with Air France.

LOST, both times I flew with them. Never again.

  25. Chase Ink Bonus at Office Depot. Round trip Business class to anywhere in the world for $1120..Yes Please!

  26. I transfer Ultimate Rewards points to my Amtrak Guest Rewards account and then book the Auto Train to bring my auto and me back and forth from Florida to the North East. Haven’t paid for a trip in over 10 years.

  27. Our four-night stay in 2013 at the newly remodeled awesome Park Hyatt in Sydney overlooking Circular Quay. Husband and I both got Hyatt Visa cards which provided two free nights each at any Hyatt worldwide.

  28. This will sound like a no-brainer, but it just can’t be overstated enough: be friendly and respectful! Yes, it’s important sometimes to be persistent and firm, but when one’s friendly and respectful at the same time, hotel-airline-etc staff will give you better rooms, food, perks…

  29. Suntrust debit for unlimited DL miles for paying taxes and Square Cash to pay anyone. Sorry to see it end July 25

  30. Thanks to many bloggers, I have a whole bunch of travel hacks! My favorite one would have to be transferring points to SA for almost free travel in FC Suites!!! I LOVE my Ink Plus and Amex ccs!

  31. Club Carlson 2 for 1 rates – oh, am I going to miss this one, but we booked up all our points before the deadline.

  32. When I don’t have enough points for business class, I Look for flights times that are most likely to have open seats in business class and hope I’m offered the option to upgrade when i check in online – If that doesnt hapen I ask at the gate.

  33. Well, it was Club Carlson’s last night free on reward redemptions. Now I find great value in Chase Ink’s 5x, buy/sell, and Avios.

  34. This is our first earning the S west companion pass……so glad I signed up for these sites and read about it …..we are off to Mexico for a few days…….hubby using points me on Cpass …..loving it !! Next Year Aruba and Jamaica ……..well maybe!! Thanks

  35. get global entry $100 instead of tsa pre-check $80. just $20 more over 5 years. worth it to bypass customs coming back from international trips!

  36. Roundtrip flight on American Airlines for two people on a week long trip to Hawaii with all but 2 hotel nights paid for on points.

  37. Knowing that the Chase Sapphire Preferred travel insurance benefits are good enough that I don’t have to pay extra for outside travel insurance policys that are recommended for travel abroad.

  38. Lots of cc signup bonuses and being able to book hotel rooms with my points for my son and his new bride for their honeymoon.

  39. My favorite hack? Using credit card signups to get enough Alaska miles to redeem a free first-class trip on Etihad to Africa or Asia. I have not yet done this, but it’s a dream that will come true soon enougu-h – easily attainable! If you sign up when the bonus is 50,000 then you only need two credit cards each and you’ve got a one-way to Africa exactly! (Or a one-way to Asia with miles left over!)

I intend to do just that. I plan to get there in luxury on Etihad, do a safari, then make my way to India and then to Europe, mostly utilizing trains and other interesting ground transport. I will end in England and take a cruise back home (there’s a ship that goes back and forth from England to America most of the year). I am currently planning on using card points to pay for the cruise, though I’m open to options to make my cruise free by other means, too (hee).

  40. Definitely the Charles Schwab card. Love the ease of having the card and not having to worry about getting money in a foreign country.

  41. I’m new – like 6 months new – to the “points game”. I’m so grateful for blogs like yours to help show me the way!!

  42. I’d have to go with the Southwest CP, too. Free travel for my daughter…on a ticket that was bought with points earned in order to get the CP? Yes, please!

  43. I’m new to travelhacking, so my hack is to get very familiar with travel blogs such as this one. 🙂

  44. Using partner websites to look for award availability. I would have never made it to Easter Island without using qantas and BA websites!

  45. Using Chase IHG points to stay at IC Mark Hopkins and the arrival plus to cover everything else travel related!

  46. My travel hack: make sure you bring your credit card travel-related insurance policy with you (or upload a PDF version to your phone). The phone numbers will become handy. Also when you have to call, use Skype or other internet phone services and ask the insurance agent to call your number back.

  47. My favorite travel hack is to start checking deal sites and blogs first thing in the morning while I am shaving 🙂

  48. Using BA’s Avios for short-haul positioning flights in order to take advantage of additional MR opportunities!

  49. Earning miles for dining through RewardsNetwork. No effort.. just register and dine as normal. No coupons or codes. Sometimes I earn surprise miles.. when I didn’t know that restaurant participated in the program. (i.e. restauant on the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge)

  50. Where to begin… Southwest companion pass, downgrading Chase Sapphire to gain another Freedom card, Club Carlson Card (not so great after this month), AMEX Gold 75k bonus transfer to BA at 40% bonus for 108K points… 5 nights in Jamaica Hyatt Ziva all-inclusive with Southwest airfare for free (less taxes)!

  51. Seems we’ve got so many miles so easily, and can’t seem to spend them all, we’ve switched the majority of our ‘spend’ over to cash-back cards. Fido, BOA and Citi. Roll the cashback straight into our Roth IRAs. Win-win.

If/when I run a little low on airline points, I’ll just apply for a new card or two… 🙂

    The game continues….

  52. Getting anything that is not covered by points covered by my Arrival card for (at least) 50% off (since buying GCs usually costs < or = 1% and it's a 2% cash back card).

  53. Ameriprise AMEX Platinum mid-year 2014: 25,000 MR points, 2x$200 airline credits (gift cards for 2014 & 2015), Centurion lounge, Priority Pass, etc. for no annual fee first year. I think it’s available again this year.

  54. My favorite travel strategy is generating Amex points to transfer to BA during Amex’s bonus (40% this year) for 9,000 point r/t tickets to ORD from the East Coast. These fares are often near $300 if you purchase in advance, and more so for last minute tickets. With Avios, there is no close in booking fee.

  55. Paying quarterly estimated taxes on credit card to meet minimum spend on travel credit cards. Not free (1.7%’ish fee), but great way for many to do a fair amount of spend. Even if you don’t have a minimum spend to meet, still a “money maker” with 2%+ cards. And love flying (pun intended) in the face of common wisdom to not pay taxes with credit card.

  56. travel hack: bringing mini lysol spray and sanitizing wipes with me the planes and people are filthy. I used to get sick after a flight and it would ruin my vacation. now I take preemptive strikes
