Analysis
I’m happy to see more international options for Hyatt award nights since some destinations have been very limited. It’s also great to see that most of the SLH options are not in the most expensive categories. I did a few searches in Italy and Greece and only saw two Category 8 hotels. I even saw a few options for 12,000 points a night. Nick at Frequent Miler made a great point that category 8 is unlikely to remain exclusive to SLH properties since many high end Hyatt’s are more expensive than the participating hotels. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed on that one.
SLH has it’s own loyalty program and offers all members the same benefits as the World of Hyatt member perks minus the upgrade based on availability, so if there’s some reason (i.e. promo or special offer) you’d prefer to book through SLH you will not lose much. Aside from earning points and elite night credits, Hyatt elites will not recive their in hotel benefits at SLH hotels. Additionally, some SLH hotels are part of Amex’s Fine Hotels and Resorts program, so you should definitely do a little comparison shopping before booking.
