Hyatt Announcements
While Hyatt is still by far the smallest of the major chains, they have been growing as fast as they can. This week we saw that growth quantified with a number of new property announcements. There were so many that I thought it would make for an interesting recap.
Nish Palas Istanbul (Unbound Collection) Opens
The Nish Palas Istanbul is a 45 room boutique hotel in one of Istanbul’s oldest neighborhoods. Described as “…the postmodern interpretation of a typical historical apartment, known as a Palas” it looks very very nice. While Istanbul isn’t perhaps the strongest tourism market these days, this hotel looks to be in a great neighborhood for exploring the city.

Grand Hyatt Athens Is Coming Soon
Hyatt announced this week that the Grand Hyatt Athens is coming in the 3rd Quarter of 2018. This hotel will have 310 rooms along with a rooftop bar and restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool and most importantly great views of the Acropolis. I have only been to Athens for one day, so perhaps a future trip there to do some more exploring is warranted.

First Hyatt Centric Hotel in India
While Hyatt Centric isn’t my overall favorite brand, I do like that it generally provides a full breakfast for Globalists (compared to Continental Breakfast in a lounge) and while not luxurious most Centric properties are pretty nice. While Hyatt is well established in India, their first Hyatt Centric hotel in the country opened in Bangalore, an area known for its technology industry. As with other Centric properties, this was a conversion from a normally branded Hyatt.

Hyatt Regency Shenzhen Airport Opens
Shenzhen is a giant industrial hub in Southern China because of its location next to Hong Kong. While the city already has several properties, Hyatt has now brought the Regency brand to the city. Located on the west side of the terminal hall inside the airport, this 335 hotel will surely be the best option in the area. I saw this hotel under construction last year and am happy to hear that it has finally opened.

Hyatt Is Coming to Ireland
As mentioned above, the Hyatt Centric brand is expanding and this time it will be coming to Ireland. Hyatt Centric The Liberties Dublin will be the first Hyatt property of any kind in the country. The hotel is expected to open in May, 2019 and will be a rare Centric new property since the majority of Centric hotels are conversions.

The Unbound Invades China
Hyatt has a strong presence in China, however currently there aren’t any Unbound properties in the country. So what do you do when you want to grow a brand and already have a lot of properties? You convert one of them! This week it was announced that the Grand Hyatt in Lijiang will be changed to the Jinmao Hotel Lijiang. This area looks beautiful and I do hope to one day visit.

Hyatt Announces A New Discount Program for Small Businesses
Finally, Hyatt also announced a new discount program called Hyatt Leverage which is designed to attract small businesses. This new program provides a 5-15% discount at Hyatt properties worldwide along with direct booking and a tracking dashboard. You can find out more about Hyatt Leverage here.
Conclusion
Hyatt has a lot going on these days and that is good news for those of us who love staying at their properties. While a couple of these are conversions, I am really excited about the new properties coming to Dublin and Athens and I think the opening of the Unbound property in Istanbul is exciting. While few will go out of their way for an airport hotel, Hyatts in China are amazing so I’m sure the one in Shenzhen will be too.
What are your thoughts? Are you glad to see the continued growth of full service Hyatt brands or do you think they need to do more considering how many limited service properties they have opened?
