Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort/Convention Center Review
World of Hyatt announced category changes that came to a lot of properties on March 18, 2019. As part of these changes a significant number of properties went up a category in cost, while others dropped. One of the properties on the list of increases is the relatively new Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort/Convention Center. This hotel sits at the corner of Harbor & Katella and is only about 10 minutes by foot to the parks. There are a lot of hotels in that area though, so why is this one so good and is it worth the new cost of 15K points?
Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort Is Compelling for Families
To start, Hyatt in my opinion has really nailed it with their limited service offerings in new properties. Yes, Hilton & Marriott both also do this very well, but Hyatt isn’t chasing anyone’s tail. New Hyatt Place and Hyatt House properties are well designed, generally comfortable and family friendly. Free breakfast for World of Hyatt members is a bonus.
Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort Has A Modern Design
And this hotel is beautiful, well thought out, spacious and even a little fun. The Hyatt House at Anaheim Convention Center is probably 2-3X the size of a normal Hyatt House property and packs a lot into a small space. From a full bar with an outdoor area and a pool table to a large pool and hot tub, there is enough to see/do.
Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort Offers Nice Amenities
Speaking of that pool, this Hyatt House doesn’t have any fancy waterslides, but the pool is pretty big and kids will find plenty of space to have fun. A spacious hot tub also sits next to it along with a fully equipped gym for those who want it. This hotel works both as a family vacation hub and a business hotel as well.
Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort Is Great For Business & Family
And speaking of business, we visited during one of the biggest conventions meaning the hotel was filled with almost no children the first couple of days. It absorbed not only the convention crowd well, but also the families that swooped in when they all went home on Friday evening.
Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort Has A Great Location
In addition to being near the parks, there are a ton of restaurants and shops nearby to keep you occupied. If you need basic supplies Walgreens is built in to the first floor. It doesn’t get any simpler than that! For shopping the Garden Walk Mall is almost directly across the street and for eating there are a ton of restaurants both high and low end including a Blaze Pizza in the hotel.
Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort Has Attractive Rooms
Rooms are important for families and this is where the Hyatt House excels. Not only will your family start the day with a robust breakfast that is decent but not special in any way, but they’ll also enjoy fairly spacious rooms that include a kitchen. We had a one bedroom suite that gave us a full kitchen and a separation to stay up when Ellie went to bed.

Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort/Convention Center Review
I don’t normally review limited service Hyatt properties, but given this hotel’s unique location and size I thought it worthy of a quick review.
Here is a quick breakdown of my thoughts on the Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort/Convention Center:
Location: 4.5 –
Great location close to the parks, shopping and dining! Staying on property at Disneyland isn’t as important as with Walt Disney World so this worked perfectly for us. We even felt it was close enough to leave the parks for a break in the hotel before returning.
Room: 4 –
This is a very modern, attractive and comfortable room straight out of the Hyatt limited service playbook. If you have status you should be able to get an upgrade to at least a small suite. Our room wasn’t the biggest, but worked well and seemed to be an easy upgrade as a Globalist even in a sold out hotel.
Amenities: 4 –
This isn’t a fancy luxury hotel, but it has most your important amenities, especially for a Disney family vacation. You have a decent number of public areas, a good pool area and a full gym. The full breakfast is decent (although not extensive) and everything else is nearby. It is lacking a playground if that is important to you and its small plot of land means there isn’t a ton of exploring you can do.
Staff: 4.5 –
I had limited interactions with the staff, however everything went very well. When I checked in I was proactively offered the upgraded suite. At breakfast the attendants worked hard to clear everyone’s plates. The hotel was full but the staff never felt stressed in the few interactions I had.
Value: 3.5 –
I loved this hotel but the value will largely lie with the prices of surrounding properties. This will absolutely be my first choice for Disneyland trips if the price is right, but I can’t see paying 15K World of Hyatt points (Worth $225-$300) if rooms at comparable properties or even this one is cheap. In other words I’ll shop around, but if the hotel is full and prices are high then this is a fantastic option.
Overall: 4.1 –
A solid choice and a hotel my family thoroughly enjoyed!
Bottom Line
While I am sad the Hyatt House Anaheim Convention Center moved up to a World of Hyatt Category 4, I still think it is one of the better properties around Disneyland for using points. On low occupancy dates this new points price is going to be steep compared to cash, however on busier dates like during my stay where rooms went for $500+, it will still be a bargain.

If there is no convention in town, check the Hilton Convention Center on cash/Hotwire.
Can be REALLY cheap. Short walk to the park.
This is a good point. A lot of those hotels can go to dirt cheap prices during low times, meaning that almost any points hotel won’t be a good value during non-peak times. This hotel for example at 15K World of Hyatt points would have to be pretty expensive on cash to justify the points. That’s another reason why I don’t think it is a perfect option nor is any other hotel in the area.
We stayed in January…Perfect for a couple nights at Disney on points. A 12 minute walk for us with one toddler in a stroller. Definitely better than the Hilton Anaheim Convention Center (where we stayed in September). I don’t think I’ve ever had Best Western points…
Haha me neither! I have to draw the line somewhere when it comes to the number of programs I carry points in! Thanks Amy!
I stayed there in August 2017 with my family of five, and the hotel gave us a HA room that had no sofa bed, even though my email confirmation clearly said I booked a room with two queen beds and a sofa bed. It was a very frustrating experience. Since I have a family of five that needs that sofa bed, I’m unlikely to stay there again.
Yeah that stinks since you were counting on it. Did they not attempt to rectify it and get you in the right room?
The hotel was sold out during our stay, so we didn’t get to switch rooms. The room had an itty-bitty sofa/chaise lounge that was about 3-feet long that my daughter slept on. We did get 12,000 points for our discomfort. If we go back, we will just stay at the nearby Hyatt Place.
Two Best Western Hotels across from Disneyland entrance are 10 minutes walk to park. Hyatt Place is 20 to 30 minutes walk depending on how fast you can walk a little over one mile.
Best Western Park Place Inn and Best Western Anaheim Inn are located on Harbor Blvd. on either side of Park Vue hotel.
Ric it’s actually just a little over half a mile and 10 minutes of non-strenous walking to get to the gates. That isn’t counting waiting at crosswalks which I suppose can add another 1-5 minutes. Both Best Western options definitely look convenient. Have you stayed at them? How would you compare them to a modern Hyatt House?
Thanks!
We stayed here on points just after it opened. Other than the cost for parking (other area hotels/motels offer free parking) this was a fantastic spot. It’s a bit of a walk from the park, and I say from the park since that’s when you least want to walk. Breakfast is good (but PACKED), the pool is fun. Our room was an ‘upgrade’ but worse than what we should have had. But the staff was friendly. I’d stay here again.
As for walkikng…our favorite place is the ParkVue. Free parking and right across the street from DL
Yeah it seems like all of the properties in the area have trade offs. This one certainly isn’t trying to be the cheapest, but it is good in the right situation and price. It has always been frustrating to me when hotels charge for parking in Anaheim, but most do. I agree that should be factored in to any decision.
I just stayed there 2 weeks ago fro a quick Disney day driving from Vegas. There was a health food convention in town and I swear my daughter was the only child I saw in the hotel! The location was about a 10 minute walk from the entrance and I found that to be just fine. Great clean hotel with tons of space and a great breakfast. I would absolutely stay there again over the aged hotels that immediately surround the park
Haha we were there at the same time! There were so few kids around it was a little strange. At breakfast it was a bunch of conventioneers and us. I felt they kept judging us for what we were eating. 🙂
