Italy Eases Entry Restrictions
Travelling to Italy is now easier, thanks to a rule change for entry requirements. Italy has officially eased entry those requirements for travelers visiting from non-European Union countries, including the United States.
As of Tuesday, March 1, fully vaccinated travelers are no longer required to show a negative COVID-19 test result to visit Italy. There’s also good new for those who are not vaccinated. They can visit Italy and avoid quarantine with a negative test result. Valid proof of recovery from COVID-19 is also accepted.
The news was announced by the Minister of Health of Italy, Roberto Speranza, following EU recommendations.
“Health Minister Roberto Speranza has signed a new ordinance establishing, with effect from March 1, the same rules for arrivals to Italy from all non-European countries as those already in force for European countries. For entry to the national territory, one of the conditions of the Green Pass will be sufficient: certificate of vaccination, certificate of recovery or negative test result,” Italy’s Ministry of Health said in a statement.
Fully vaccinated Americans can present their white CDC card as proof of vaccination. But, the date of the last dose of the primary vaccination series must be at least 14 days prior to travel and no more than 270 days before arrival unless a booster shot was administered.
Unvaccinated individuals will need a negative molecular PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival or a negative rapid antigen test taken within 48 hours of arrival. For proof of recovery from COVID-19, travelers need to show a medical certificate confirming recovery from COVID-19. That certificate is valid only for six months from recovery.
Visitors unable to meet any of the conditions listed above, will be required to quarantine on arrival for at least five days and undergo a molecular PCR or rapid antigen test at the end of that isolation period.
