Italy to Reopen Two Airports
Italy has announced that it will open two of its airports in the coming days, as the country starts to slowly reopen after the coronavirus shutdown. The airports will reopen on May 4th for passenger flights, the transport ministry said in a statement today.
One of them is Ciampino in Rome. This is secondary airport in the city, and is mostly used by low-cost carriers. The other is Peretola, the second-busiest Tuscan airport in terms of passengers after Pisa International Airport. Both airports will be used to test screening systems put in place for COVID-19, Straits Times reports. The airports have been shut down since March 13th.
Even though airports are reopening, the restrictions on travel within the country will still remain in place until at least May 18th.
This will be part of phase two of the reopening in Italy. The lockdown will end on May 4th with obligations to wear masks and maintain social distance. Later in May bars, restaurants and other catering activities will open. But the full reopening could last until March 2021.
