Marriott Extends Free Night Awards and Points Expiration Again
Update 5/7/21: Check your accounts and make sure the certificates were properly updated. Remember that the oldest certificates may not get updated since they are outside the approved dates.
There’s good news for Marriott Bonvoy members who have been scrambling to use their free night awards, or just aren’t ready to start traveling just yet. Marriott is extending free night awards through January of 2022. This is the third time that Marriott has extended the expiration on free night awards during the pandemic. Marriott is also pausing point expiration through March of next year. Let’s look at the details of these latest extensions.
Eligible Free Night Awards Extension
Marriott has announced that Eligible Free Night Awards redemption has been extended to January 3, 2022.
Effective May 7th, 2021 members who currently have a Free Night Award that has an original expiration date in 2020, or which will expire before January 2, 2022, as part of their cobrand credit card benefit, annual choice benefit, promotions or travel package will be able to redeem it through January 3, 2022. Free Night Awards with an original expiration date prior to 2020 will not be eligible for the additional extension.
Points Expiration
Points Expiration is now paused until March 31, 2022. At that time, your points will only expire if your account has been inactive for at least 24 months. You have a few options to keep your account active if you don’t have any planned stays. You can take advantage of partner offers, or just use your Marriott Bonvoy® Credit Card.

Conclusion
This is great news for Marriot Bonvoy members who have free night awards. With the extra time, there’s no reason to stress just yet about burning them. You now have the option to use them throughout the summer, fall and early winter.

Mine were extended in the last hour or so (even the ones with older original expiration dates).
Mine haven’t been extended either. Marriott is such liars….
Mine have not yet been extended
Neither have mine including one initially issued last year.
We have heard from a FB member that they were told some were delayed till the 10th so hopefully you will see it early next week but it should have been done when they said it would for sure.
Its about the little wins in life..
