Marriott Will Allow You to Combine Free Night Certificate + Points in 2022

Marriott Travel Packages Are Going Away Soon

Marriott Travel Packages, also known as a “Hotel + Air Package”, are going away soon. They are one of the ways to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points. When you purchase one of these packages, you get a certificate for a 7-night hotel stay (or more) plus airline miles varying from 50,000 to 110,000.

These packages don’t have the value they used to, especially when they were under the old Starwood Preferred Guest program. Now Marriott looks like it will be discontinuing this redemption option completely on 1/19/22.

The news was first reported by View from the Wing, who noticed an update to the program’s terms and conditions:

3.14 Hotel and Air Travel Packages

Effective January 19, 2022, Hotel and Air Travel Packages are no longer available for purchase.

But this was apparently Marriott released this information earlier than planned. A spokesperson told VFTW and it “was published prematurely, and we regret the error. We will have additional details for members in the coming days”.

Conclusion

This is not the end of the world for Marriott Bonvoy members. The Travel Packages used to be a great option for using Marriott points, but that hasn’t been the case in years.

It could still get you good value, but you need to find award availability for seven nights at peak-pricing for your favorite hotel to save 90,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

Have you purchases any of these Marriott Travel Packages recently?
