Las Vegas Casinos Say “No Mask, No Problem”

Mask Are Not Required at Vegas Casinos

UPDATE: This Policy Has Since Changed

Las Vegas has reopened and people have rushed to go back to their favorite casinos. But unlike many other businesses around the country, casinos are not forcing patrons to wear face masks during the coronavirus pandemic.

For now, the state Gaming Control Board doesn’t require facial coverings for casino customers. But that could change if there’s a spike in new COVID-19 cases, which would overburden Southern Nevada hospitals.

“Per our current policy, all casino employees must be wearing masks. Licensees must have masks available for patrons and should strongly encourage patrons to wear them,” Control Board Chairwoman Sandra Morgan told the Review-Journal Monday. “If that data changes and our percentage of positive cases increase, I would consider additional measures to ensure our health care system is not overburdened.”

The Southern Nevada Health District recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public, even more importantly in environments where social distancing is not always possible. “Businesses have a moral obligation to protect this community by implementing policies that require their patrons to wear masks in public areas; it will certainly contribute to the decrease of coronavirus spread in Clark County, and the State of Nevada,” Fermin Leguen, Acting Chief Health Officer of Southern Nevada Health District said in the statement.

  1. As a local resident, I can tell you that the newest directive is that as of 11:59 PM Thursday, June 25, everyone needs to wear a mask in a public place including the casinos. You’ll need to revise the article.

  2. If cases spike, it will be the people who are working in the restaurants & casinos in Vegas who get sick. If the guests catch covid, they likely won’t get sick until after they get home, where they would theoretically spread it to friends, co-workers and family.

  3. They are doing what makes sense for them business wise. The people who are afraid and wearing masks are way less likely to come whether masks are required or not. On the other hand, the people who are not afraid are not going to show up if they are forced to wear a mask.

  4. Corona cases do not overwhelm the health care system. Hospitalizations might. HUGE difference. And a lot less dramatic.
