Mexico Will Invest Over $600M at Major Airports
The Mexican government and private investors have announced major investments at airports around the country. More than $600 million will be spent this year to update and maintain airport infrastructure.
Almost 80% of the resources will come from airport operators with $123.7 million to come from the government, Mexico News Daily reports.
$33 million will dedicated to Mexico City International Airport. The state-owned airport will also invest $6 million of its own money on improvements this year. The international airport in Puerto Vallarta is also slated to see major expenses with the addition of a new terminal, with owners Pacific Airport Group expected to foot the entire bill.
Modernization projects will soon get underway on airports at Puerto Escondido, Ciudad del Carmen, Puebla, Colima and Tepic. Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) will also complete fuel station projects at Cancun, Guanajuato and Los Cabos airports.
Mexico is a major destination for Americans. During the January – August 2021 period, 6,409,302 million U.S. citizens arrived in Mexico by air, a 112.2% increase compared to the same period in 2020, although much lower than 201. U.S. nationals represented 81% of all passengers arriving in Mexico by air during that period.
