News That Caught My Eye

Exclusive Hyatt Gold Passport Discount Is Another Reason to Book Direct

Hyatt has introduced a new Gold Passport member discount of up to 10% for booking directly on their site. The discount doesn’t work with all hotels, but if you are logged in you should see it where applicable. For the most part it is basically the same as the AAA/Senior or Costco (66267) rates, but I did find it was better in a few cases. (Hyatt Centric South Beach for example.)

The other announcement today (the link above is to the press release) is about some upcoming new features being added to their app. According to Hyatt, “Later this year, the enhanced Hyatt mobile app will provide guests who book direct the ability to make on-demand requests by communicating instantly with Hyatt on services like Messenger or text messaging.” Interesting idea.

Club Carlson’s Summer Promotion

I have never been a huge fan of Club Carlson’s properties, but I dealt with them because of the now defunct Bonus Award Night. With that said, from time to time they make it easy to earn points. The program has just announced their new Summer promotion for stays from April 18, 2016 through July 31, 2016. The bonus is as follows:

  • Earn 5,000 bonus Gold Points after completing 2 Eligible Nights
  • Earn an additional 10,000 bonus Gold Points after completing 5 Eligible Nights
  • Earn another 10,000 bonus Gold Points after completing 10 Eligible Nights
  • Earn a final 25,000 bonus Gold Points after completing 15 or more Eligible Nights

Club Carlson points aren’t really worth much and I find that their properties often leave a lot to be desire so I will pass. If you are interested make sure to register at the link above.

Citi improves travel and protection benefits in a big way

If you have a Citi card then you doubt received an email (or in my case dozens) this past weekend regarding changes card benefits. In addition to better purchase protection and wider coverage for travel benefits, The big news for Prestige holders was that you no longer need to pay for the entire trip with the card to be eligible. Award flights should count. There are of course exclusions so it’s best to read the whole guide.

Great Deals

  • You can earn 250 Marriott Rewards points by linking up your social media accounts and finding a specific hashtag. Details here.
