Mint Will Shut Down Next Year
Mint, a popular personal financial management tool, will soon cease to operate as a standalone app and website. Originally, the end date for Mint was set as January 1, 2024. However, this week it was pushed back to March 23, 2024. After that date, Mint will become part of Intuit’s Credit Karma.
Intuit first acquired Mint in 2009 for $170 million. It then bought Credit Karma, a credit reporting, monitoring and comparison platform, 11 years later for $7.1 billion.
Intuit says that is is “reimagining Mint as part of Intuit Credit Karma”. Some of Mint’s features, like a consolidated view of financial accounts, transaction tracking, and spending reports, will be available at Credit Karma as well, in a new Net Worth section. Mint users who move to Credit Karma will also have access to Credit Karma other features.
If you sign up for Credit Karma now, you’ll have an option to securely transfer your eligible linked financial accounts, historical balances and more. If you have an existing Credit Karma account, all you have to do is log into Credit Karma from the Mint app.
But Intuit notes that Credit Karma lacks Mint’s budgeting features and may not support some financial institutions which you are currently able to connect with Mint.
Are you a Mint user? Let us know in the comments if you plan to stay with Credit Karma or move to another service?
