MtM Vegas – NBA Coming to Vegas & Casino Icon Dies
This week we have so much to talk about including the death of Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson. Before we dive in don’t forget to subscribe to the Miles to Memories YouTube channel to see every episode plus our Vegas reviews, guides and tours!
This Week’s MtM Vegas
Sheldon Adelson passed away this week at the age of 87. On this week’s show we discuss how Adelson and his Las Vegas Sands company have impacted Las Vegas and the gaming industry as a whole. What is the future of the Venetian and Palazzo now that he is gone and when will their newest resort (Londoner) open in Macau?
We also discuss the news that Rio isn’t going anywhere. The vintage hotel’s owner has asked for a gaming license and plans a monster refresh. Plus the NBA may be coming to Las Vegas but it won’t be cheap and a brand new 1960’s throwback hotel is coming to the Vegas Strip. It’s unique, but will it work and when will business travel return?
Bottom Line
No matter how you feel about Adelson his impact on Las Vegas and the gaming industry as a whole is undeniable. He helped bring in this new era of Vegas, built iconic properties in Singapore and Macau and pushed for the Raiders to come to Vegas. With his death and everything else going on right now there is no doubt in my mind that Las Vegas is about to undergo a fundamental shift. What do you think?

Sheldon Adelson may have been great for Vegas, and he donated millions to medical research, but the positive stops there. The largest portion of his wealth went to support conservative causes and candidates in this country (and in Israel) that shaped the political (mis)fortunes of both. He lived a long life, and a new era has begun.
Sheldon Adelson’s legacy will be the political damage he did far and wide.
