Old Bally’s Going Away – New Bally’s Is Trop?
Caesars Entertainment followed through with the long rumored change of Bally’s Las Vegas to Horseshoe Las Vegas. This brings the iconic Downtown Las Vegas brand back, but what will be changing and what won’t as the property transitions throughout 2022. Hint: You aren’t getting new rooms.
With Bally’s Las Vegas turning to Horseshoe, that opens up the opportunity for the Bally’s name to come back elsewhere. Unfortunately that means Tropicana is likely going to be heavily renovated or demolished when it’s sale to Bally’s Corporation completes later this year. Will Trop become the new Bally’s? We talk about all of that plus how the ownership landscape in Vegas has changed a lot these past couple of years and what that means.

This will actually be the second name change for the current Bally’s, when it becomes the Horseshoe. The hotel and casino was originally known as the MGM Grand, long before the current MGM Grand was built. A fire at the then MGM Grand in 1980 killed 85 people and injured 650, hence the name change to Bally’s. The tragedy remains the deadliest disaster in Nevada history, and the third-deadliest hotel fire in modern U.S. history.
