New Offers for Chase Freedom Cards

New Offers for Chase Freedom Cards

Chase has release new offers for the two Freedom credit cards. Until now you could get a $200 bonus for spending $500 within three months plus 5% on groceries. That offers is still showing up here for both cards, but will probably not last long.

The new offers give you that same $200 bonus plus 5% on gas purchases for the first year. The Chase Freedom Unlimited also has yet a different offer for an extra 1.5% cash back on all purchases that can get you $300.

Update 6/17/22: The 5% back at gas stations offers have been extended until October 16, 2022.

Some of these offers may have changed since posting.

Chase Freedom Unlimited

There are two different offers available for the Chase Freedom Unlimited card. One gets you $200 and 5% cash back for gas purchases and the other doesn’t have that $200 but earns you an additional 1.5% on all purchase up to $20K.

Analysis

The $200 bonus is small compared to most other welcome bonuses that we are used to. That is the reason that most people get Chase Freedom cards after product changing from other premium Chase cards.

But the added bonus 5X earning on gas purchases could make this worthwhile for some people. You earn a total of 5X points which would be an extra 3.5X for the Chase Freedom Unlimited and an extra 4X for Chase Freedom Flex on $6,000 in purchases during the first year.

You could look at this as a 30K bonus with $6K spend, but you would also have to consider what you would earn on gas with other cards that you already have.

Then you have the separate Chase Freedom Unlimited bonus that doesn’t get you that $200 but earn you an additional 1.5% on all purchases. That’s an extra $300 or 30,000 bonus points if you maximize it with the $20,000 spend.

Conclusion

These bonuses on the Chase Freedom cards are good. But I think most people prefer the old bonuses that are supposed to end soon. Get them now if you prefer the 5% on groceries.

If you have been thinking of applying, then this is the time to do it. However, you can still get better bonuses with other credit cards, even if they have an annual fee. You can then downgrade to the Freedom Flex to keep earning 5% on rotating quarterly categories.

Let us know what you think of these improved offers!
