Free Google Home With $16.99 NY Times Subscription
The New York Times has a great offer for an almost free Google Home. All you need to do is sign up for a subscription, which you’re able to cancel.
Update
Checkout page has been updated at New York Times and you you need to pay upfront for the whole year, which will cost you $204. That’s more than what Google Home is worth. It could still be possible to pay the whole year and then get a refund if you cancel, but it is much riskier. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re interested in the subscription.
The Offer
A subscription to The Times will get you more than our daily report. You’ll also get the gift of a Google Home, with All Access or Home Delivery subscription. New York Times currently have three subscription options:
- Basic – $9.99/month
- All Access – $16.99/month
- Home Delivery + All Access – $18/month
Only the last two option qualify for the Google Home gift, so you need to pay at least $16.99. You can cancel the subscription after that, since there’s no language against it in the terms of the offer.
Key Terms
- Offer ends December 31, 2017, or while supplies last.
- To be eligible to receive this offer, you must be located in the United States of America, as defined by your billing ZIP code, excluding any of its territories, and be age 13 or older.
- To receive the Google Home, you need to redeem your promotional code, which requires you to have an internet access and have, or activate, a Google Payments account and be signed-in to a Google account.
- You will receive your promotional code in an email from The New York Times.
- To redeem your promotional code, visit store.google.com/product/google_home, add the Google Home to your cart, and enter your promotional code during checkout to receive your 100 percent discounted Google Home.
- The Google Home discount will be applied at checkout. Promotional codes cannot be used with Guest Checkout.
- Promotional code must be redeemed by 3/14/18 or it will expire.
- Promotional codes may be redeemed only on Google Store for eligible items as allowed by applicable laws.
- Promotional code is good for one-time use only, is not stored value, has no cash value, is not reloadable, is not transferable, and has no balance after use.
Conclusion
This is a great offer which I doubt will last long. You receive a promo code that you’re able to redeem for a free Google Home after you pay for the subscription. You will pay $16.99 a month, but cancel within the first month if you’re not interested.

[…] Don’t do deals that end up costing you in the end). What do I mean by this? I submit to you the New York Times google home deal. Well, I just got around to canceling the fourth subscription I signed up for in order to get 4 […]
[…] The New York Times had their version of a mistake fare of sorts two weeks ago. They were offering a free Google Home if you signed up for a new subscription. The offer was allowing you to sign up for the $16.99 monthly plan and still get a free Google Home. The New York Times figured out their error few hours later and required a one year subscription. If you were lucky enough to get in on the deal early you were essentially able to snag a $130 Google Home for $16.99. […]
I was able to receive the code but looks like Google Home is Out of stock. I paid $16.99
The $9.99 ($120 Annual) subscription also includes a Google Home per https://www.nytimes.com/subscription/multiproduct/lp8HYGT.html?campaignId=6XXF6#bundlestart. This technically is the best value as for the $9.00 less than the cost of the Google Home, you get the Google Home + a year of NYT Subscription (if you don’t care about the extras from the other packages).
I’m also seeing a one year subscription as a requirement to get the Google Home. Says payment is billed for the year. Maybe the terms have changed already?
I updated post, I see same thing now.
You need to pay whole year upfront. Not sure if you can cancel just after first month.
I only paid $16.99
They changed the terms it seems. It only required a one month payment when we posted.
Google Home is not available anymore – they suggest joining a waiting list
Works if you keep trying over and over. But I guess should be back in stock again soon. Coupon is good for another 5 months so shouldn’t be an issue.
I ordered the NYT subscription and got the code for free Google Home.
On the Google Store site I am stuck in the shopping card. When I click “Check Out” it just refreshes the page. I have a friend who is having the same issue.
Lots of orders coming in I guess. Worked without problems earlier.
Just signed up! :))

Careful with this, my code arrived already used. Someone figured out the code algorithm and is likely stealing them. Its happened to a lot of people on the SD thread.
Interesting….thanks for the info.
