PayPal Business Debit Card Spending Bonus

PayPal Business Debit Card Spending Bonus

PayPal has sent out an offer through email to those who have a PayPal Business Debit Card. You get to choose the type of cashback you want to earn in the fourth quarter. Let’s take a look at the options.

The Offer

Limited-time offers are valid October 2 through December 31, 2019. Choose one of these cash back options for your PayPal Business Debit Card:

  • Spend $1,000 and get $40 cash back
  • Earn 2% cash back on eligible shipping costs (USPS, UPS, FedEx, and more)
  • Earn 1.25% cash back on all purchases

If you don’t choose any of these options, you will keep earning 1% Cash Back on all eligible purchases. You should see the offer here after you log in.

Key Terms

  • For first option, $40 bonus cash back will be earned when you make $1,000 in purchases with your PayPal Business Debit Mastercard. Transactions that are not eligible for bonus cash back include, but are not limited to: cash withdrawals, cash advances, and the cash-back portion of any point-of-sale purchase. A maximum of $40 bonus cash back can be earned. Bonus cash back will be added to the PayPal account associated with the PayPal Business Debit Card that completed the eligible purchases within 30 days of campaign completion.
  • For second option, 2% bonus cash back will only be awarded at merchants with the merchant codes of MCC4215 or MCC9402 (which generally include shipping merchants, including, but are not limited to, the United States Postal Service, UPS, and FedEx). 2% bonus cash back will be earned on all purchases made at eligible merchants with your PayPal Business Debit Mastercard. Transactions that are not eligible for bonus cash back include, but are not limited to: cash withdrawals, cash advances, and the cash-back portion of any point-of-sale purchase. Bonus cash back will be added to the PayPal account associated with the PayPal Business Debit Card that completed the eligible purchases within 30 days of qualifying purchase settlement.
  • For third option, bonus cash back include: credit transactions which you sign for and which are processed by Mastercard; online transactions processed by Mastercard; purchases processed via a debit network (including PIN-less debit transactions); and phone transactions processed by Mastercard. Transactions that are not eligible for bonus cash back include, but are not limited to: cash withdrawals, cash advances, and the cash-back portion of any point-of-sale purchase. Bonus cash back will be added to the PayPal account associated with the PayPal Business Debit Card that completed the eligible transaction(s) within 30 days of qualifying purchase settlement.

Conclusion

Good offers for a debit card. But I suspect most readers will already have credit cards that earn a better rate than 1.25% on all purchases or 2% on those select categories. The first option is probably the most interesting since you can get 4% back on a $1,000 purchase.

  1. Definitely YMMV. I got offers of $20 for $750 spend and 1% for shipping. Taking the first option but wondering if tax payments will count?
