Plastiq Mortgage Discount Promo
In the wake of the demise of their rival RadPad, payment service Plastiq is bringing back their popular discounted mortgage (or rent) payment promotion. Let’s take a look.
The Offer
Schedule 6 or more rent or mortgage payments with either your MasterCard or American Express, and lock in a lower Plastiq fee for these payments. Promotional fees are as follows:
- MasterCard = 1.75%
- American Express = 2.25%
How It Works
- The only limit is your credit card’s expiration date
- Remember to click “Set Payment Schedule” and not “Review & Pay Now”
- Schedule 6 or more payments, and schedule them as far into the future as you’d like.
- Make sure those payments are for rent or mortgage
- Use a MasterCard OR American Express
- Do it before October 31, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. PT
You can find the full promotional terms here.
Analysis
If you didn’t already lock in your mortgage payments in advance during the past promotion, this is a great opportunity to actually make a few bucks or points after paying the fee. For example, the Arrival Plus earns about 2.05% cashback which would equate to a $3 profit on every $1,000 paid. Not a huge amount, but something.
Alternatively, the AT&T Access More card has been known to code as 3X for payments with Plastiq. By using that card, you would earn 3,000 points for only $17.50 in fees on every $1,000 paid. Based on my own personal valuation, those points are worth about $45 or so.
Get $200 Fee Free Dollars
Plastiq has a referral program for all members. If you sign-up with someone’s referral link you get $200 fee-free dollars for payments. Here is my referral link if you are new to Plastiq.
Conclusion
If you have an AT&T Access More card or even an Arrival Plus or similar card, then it may make sense to shift your mortgage payments over to Plastiq. I have found them to be reliable and the service works well.

[…] course Plastiq isn’t free. While they do have a promotion where you can get a 2.25% rate to pay your mortgage if you lock in 6 payments by 10/31, let’s calculate this based on their normal 2.5% rate. For the math let’s assume the […]
These guys must be losing money by the boatload. Essentially, for each person that signs up through a referral link and makes a payment of at least $20, they are giving away $600 ($400 to referrer and $200 to enrollee)? Do I have that straight?
They don’t give you $400 or $200 as a bonus. They give you the ability to pay $400 or $200 worth of bills without a fee.
Gotcha. Thanks!
@J My mortgage pymt went up and I was not allowed to modify my payment and get the same rate (I had 1.5%), so I added an additional pymt at the new “special rate” at the time. My church monthly pledge is at 2%, and my H2O pymt is free (not sure how I was able to get that, but I’ve been with them since the beginning). I WILL say that when my credit card was stolen and I was issued a new number, they made a special exception and let me convert my payments to the new card and continue at all the same (various) rates — ordinarily if you change your primary card, everything is billed at the current rate.
Does anyone know if Plastiq works for maintenance fees for a condo or homeowners’ association fees? Thanks!
This is confusing. I’m happy for you to get your $400 referral link, Shawn, but what are the minimum required terms for me to get my $200. Once I get them, what can I use the $200 for?
Hi Andy. Here are their terms. “Get rewarded in return for every person who registers with Plastiq via your referral link and makes a payment of at least $20.” So if you make a payment of at least $20 then you should receive $200 fee-free dollars and I (or whoever else refers you) will receive $400 fee-free dollars.
Yes it works. However, it isn’t a mortgage or rent so you won’t get that special rate on the fees. I pay my maintenance and association dues with plastiq.
Please use my referral if you need to sign up.

This is likely a dumb question, but I’m assuming that I can cancel or amend the payment prior to the 6 payments being sent? I’m not sure if I’ll renew my lease at my current place and want the promo, but cannot lock into 6 months.
I wonder how Plastiq is able to offer these discounts and not lose money but Radpad isn’t able to make money charging even more fees.
If you need a referral, please use my link below. You will receive $200 fee free dollars after making first payment of at least $20 through Plastiq. I will also receive $400 fee free dollar once you use my link. Thanks.
