Luxor & Rio Las Vegas Renovations

Luxor & Rio Las Vegas Renovations

Some big renovation news has hit Las Vegas with some long standing rumors being shot down and some other ones coming true. Let’s take a look at what has been announced for Luxor & Rio Las Vegas Renovations plus dive in deep with my analysis video to learn even more.

Luxor & Rio Las Vegas Renovations Video

While I’ll cover both the Luxor renovation news and Rio/Hyatt bombshell below, you can dive in deeper with the following video I made for our YouTube channel. There are tons of angles to this news so jump in if you wish!

Luxor Las Vegas Renovation

Over the next couple of months MGM Resorts has announced they will be renovating their long dated Pyramid Tower rooms. This means the rooms located inside the iconic pyramid will be getting a full makeover. Thankfully they also keep some of Luxor’s theming so it is a win win or at least I hope it will be.

While I am really impressed with these announced Luxor renovations and feel like they are in line with what Caesars did with the latest renovations at Flamingo, there was one secret we found out. Travel Fanboy on Twitter discovered that some of the furniture coming to Luxor is actually from Bellagio. Bellagio is renovating their rooms right now as well meaning Luxor is getting hand me downs, but good quality ones.

Overall I think this is good news considering the recent rumors of Luxor’s possible implosion. While I was never 100% convinced that would happen, it is nice to see MGM Resorts investing some money in Luxor. Hopefully some renovations to the inside of the property will come as well, but these rooms look very solid.

Rio Las Vegas Redevelopment into Hyatt

The other big Las Vegas bombshell was the news that Rio Las Vegas is to become a Hyatt. When speaking to the Gaming Control Board earlier this year Rio’s owner had hinted at this, but no details were announced. Now we know what is going to happen (sort of) and it is really exciting.

To start, they will be renovating 1,501 rooms into a Hyatt Regency. Following that roughly 1,000 other rooms will be developed into two other Hyatt brands. My guess is we will see higher end brands here, but nothing has been announced. Along with the complete Rio hotel renovations they will also be redeveloping the property from head to toe.

One other positive side effect of this Rio news is that we will have a full service Hyatt brand in the Vegas resort corridor. It isn’t on the Strip, but it is close and World of Hyatt members should get full elite benefits at this property compared to some watered down benefits when uitilizing the Hyatt/Mlife partnership. Overall this is exciting and I can’t wait to learn more about what the rooms will look like.

Luxor & Rio Las Vegas Renovations – Bottom Line

Las Vegas has been busy as travel seems to be coming back full force. It isn’t a huge surprise to see these investments in Las Vegas, but I am definitely happy to see Rio getting some Hyatt love and I can’t wait to try out the new Pyramid Tower rooms for myself. What do you think?

  1. Awful. The dark wood color is out of style. The carpet makes the room seem drab, and the wall behind the bed makes it look tacky. The bathroom looks cheap. It’s so dated. Hotel owners often have no clue. That’s my biggest issue with Hyatt. All their rooms are bland in their entire portfolio expect Vienna and Sydney (but with disgust glass wall bathrooms). Why waste the money on this garbage.

  2. At first I was joking but looking at the pictures , it absolutely is Bellagio furniture !! Makes sense since Bellagio is being remodeled at the same time.

  3. Hope this doesn’t affect the MGM MLife relationship… I can’t imagine doing anything to the Rio’s existing building to make it beyond a Hyatt Regency / Grand Hyatt level… unless they bling out the penthouse levels for an Andaz or Thompson (hotel within a hotel), and maybe part of a tower for the Hyatt Residence Club (like what Hilton & Marriot’s got all over Vegas).

    • This doesn’t change the MGM/Hyatt partnership, but it also doesn’t mean that partnership won’t change independently of this over the next couple of years. Good point on the quality. I think Rio needs a huge rehab and could be brought up to standards, but any 5 star hotel would probably be small with the majority of the rooms being more mass market. We shall see.
