Safeway & Albertsons Visa Gift Card Deal

Albertsons, Safeway, Vons etc. have a great new Visa gift card deal for the next two weeks. Let’s take a look!

The Offer

Save $10 instantly when you purchase a $100 Visa or Mastercard gift card.

Key Terms

  • Offer expires 7/1/2017
  • Limit 1
  • Club Card required

Loading the Offer

This offer comes in the form of a digital coupon that needs to be loaded to your account. Once you load the offer, the $10 discount should come off automatically when you purchase a single $100 Visa or Mastercard gift card. I don’t believe variable load cards will work, but there is always a chance.

Maximizing

$100 Visa & Mastercard gift cards sold at these stores come with a $5.95 fee, so basically you will be paying $95.95 for a $100 value. The Chase Freedom card’s 2nd quarter grocery store 5% bonus is coming to a close, so this could be a great way to cap that off if you haven’t already done so.

Both the Visa & Mastercard gift cards are PIN-enabled. For more info on liquidating, see: How To Liquidate Prepaid Visa & Mastercard Gift Cards

Conclusion

The coupon is limited to one-time use only per account. Either way it is a great deal and a great way to get negative cost spend. It may be worth a visit if you have a Safeway, Albertson’s, Vons, etc. nearby.

  1. Safeway in Maryland just gave me the discount on a variable Visa for $500. Same experience last week with the AMEX deal.

  2. I made a purchase this morning, VGC work on variable load. Also, learned something new today, Albertson and Von’s accounts are now linked. I dont have a Albertson near but welcome the option.

  3. I really appreciate that you called my attention to this. It wasn’t on my Safeway card yesterday. It’s so much more difficult to shop since new grocery ads traditionally come out on Wednesday yet valuable offers somehow magically appear at 2 AM on a Sunday. I guess the major chains just want us to constantly keep checking. Frankly, it’s too much work and too much of a time demand.

    • The verbiage in the past mentioned “$100 or more” and this time the deal says, “A $100 gift card”. Definitely worth a try though and I certainly hope variable cards work! Hopefully others can share their data points.

      • Oh ok. Youre probably right.
I maxed out on my freedom 5%. Now looking into the CSR. This would give 1.5% back on travel right? Or is it 2.5x on travel?

        • Heo. I have no idea what youre talking about which is concerning. Did you get the CSR without really knowing what it does?

CSR does not have any grocery category spend. It does have travel and dining at 3x cpp.

But for this deal you only get 1cpp. When redeeming UR directly on the UR travel portal, then you have the benefit of spending your URs at 1.5cpp due to the CSR, but that is a total waste IMHO. transfer partners is the whole point of UR. of course, everyone has their own needs and goals so YMMV.

I dont even know where you got 2.5cpp.

    • shawn answered the 2nd part but let me answer the 1st:

NO. DO NOT USE the USB AR to buy a GC. some say low denom is ok and not use mobile, buy why risk it?
