Saudi Arabia Set to Reopen for International Visitors
Saudi Arabia has announced that it will reopen to international visitors, 18 months after closing its borders last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The once-reclusive kingdom started a tourism push back in 2019, issuing tourist visas for the first time 2019. Between September 2019 and March 2020, it issued around 400,000 visas. However, the pandemic halted the campaign.
Saudi Arabia’s Tourism Ministry will now re-allow entry for tourist visa holders starting Aug. 1, it said in a statement.
“Vaccinated tourists will be allowed to enter without having to be institutionally quarantined upon providing a negative Covid-19 PCR test and a vaccination certificate,” the ministry said. Accepted vaccines will be Pfizer, Astrazeneca , Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, the statement added as reported by Reuters.
Visitors from 49 countries are eligible for its tourism e-visas. An online portal has been set up and is available for travelers to register their vaccination status prior to visiting Saudi Arabia.
