Southwest has increased the welcome offers on all three personal credit cards. You can now earn 65,000 miles with the new offers. While we have seen higher offers in the past, these new offers have a much lower spending requirement. Let’s see the details.

Need to Know

Here are some facts about the cards you should know:

  • Southwest points are often worth 1.4 cents each towards airfare. This increased offer is like getting an extra $140 in value.
  • Points earned from these offers DO COUNT towards the Southwest Companion Pass.
  • These cards are known to be subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule.

Eligibility

These products are not available to either:

  • (i) current Cardmembers of any Southwest Rapids Rewards® Credit Card, or
  • (ii) previous Cardmembers of any Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card who received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months. This does not apply to Cardmembers of the Southwest Rapid Rewards Business Card and Employee Credit Card products.

Conclusion

These are very good offers on all three cards and are especially useful to get the Southwest Companion Pass. While we saw a bonus as high as 80K in the past, these new offers have a much lower spending requirement.

All three bonuses are also available through referral links. That makes these offers better since the person referring you can earn a referral bonus as well.

For frequent Southwest flyers the Priority card is probably the best personal card with all of the added perks you get and the Southwest credit.  For more infrequent flyers the Plus version is the best fit in my opinion since the annual fee is very manageable.

You may want to hold off applying until the end of the year so that you can maximize the Companion Pass.  But if you are already close to earning one, especially with the reduced requirements this year, then this could be a good option for you.  Maybe you can pair it up with their new bank bonus offers too.
