Southwest Launches New Fare with More Flexibility and Rewards
Southwest Airlines has finally unveiled a new fare class which has been rumored for a while. The Dallas-based airline announced last year that it would launch a new type of fare, without providing any details.
Now Southwest has revealed the name and the details for the new fare which will become available for bookings in the second quarter of 2022. There are also improvements to other fare classes.
Wanna Get Away Plus
The new ‘Wanna Get Away Plus’ fare joins Wanna Get Away, Anytime, and Business Select in the fare product lineup. It sits above the Wanna Get Away fare class, offering more points earning and flexibility.
In addition to the benefits offered across all fares (2 free checked bags1, no change fees, free TV/movies/messaging), Wanna Get Away Plus offers:
- Transferable flight credit(s), a new benefit that enables Customers to make a one-time transfer of eligible unused flight credit to a new traveler for future use.
- More flexibility through same-day confirmed change/same-day standby.
- More earning power with 8X Rapid Rewards points.
More Improvements
Transferable flight credits will also be a benefit for Business Select and Anytime fares. Anytime fares will also gain EarlyBird Check-In, Priority Lane, and Express Lane benefits.
Tier Members (A-List /A-List Preferred Customers) will now receive same-day confirmed change in addition to same-day standby.
These changes to Business Select and Anytime will all be available to all customers when Wanna Get Away Plus becomes available for sale in all Southwest channels in the second quarter.

Any chance for an answer to my question about flight credits?
Thanks
What is a flight credit and why is it good to be able to transfer it?
Thanks
I tend to use Southwest when I know plans are likely to change or for speculative bookings to lock something in, but generally stick to points since you get the balance refunded immediately if you need to cancel. With cash, if I cancel a trip my wife and I were gonna take, I can’t use the credit in my wife’s name to book travel for myself. No kids yet but for families I imagine this is particularly maddening. Sounds like this new fare class helps with that problem. Let’s just hope it’s priced at a modest premium so it is actually a solid option.
