Tropicana Las Vegas Review – Reopening Night

Las Vegas is reopening, but not all of the casinos have opened their doors quite yet. Back in June casinos were allowed to reopen in Vegas, but it has taken all of this time to get the majority of properties to come back. One of the most historic casinos on the Strip is Tropicana. Built in 1957, it features one of the better pool areas in Vegas along with historic bungalow style rooms and so much more!
I spent a good portion of my childhood at The Trop. From the time I was 5 until 11 we stayed at The Tropicana 3-4X per year and I have so many fond memories of the “Island of Las Vegas”. Today much of the Polynesian theming is gone and instead a South Beach theme has replaced it, however so much still remains.
My Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel & Property Review for Opening Night
My stay at the Tropicana (which is also a Doubletree) came on the opening night. I had some issues with my stay including no Hilton Diamond recognition, the internet not working, ice machine not working and half of the elevators being down as an example, but it didn’t take away from the nostalgia. The rooms here won’t win any awards either, but they are decent.

Tropicana Las Vegas Review – Bottom Line
My stay at the Tropicana on opening night wasn’t perfect, but I hope this Tropicana Las Vegas review shows just how special this property is. Yes, they have work to do and I’m glad to call out the shortcomings of this property, but I do hope its future is bright. It has one of the better locations in Vegas and is just asking for a redevelopment! What do you think?

Haven’t been since ~2007 maybe, but my favorite thing there was a hallway from the casino floor to the self parking lot that had black and white photos of the original strip casinos: Sahara, Flamingo, Tropicana etc. Is that still there by any chance?
I’m not sure I’ve seen that hallway. One of the bungalow buildings which sort of jetted out towards Tropicana and the parking was removed in 2010. I wonder if it was there.
Haven’t been to the Trop since like 2013 and didn’t know they had such a nice outdoor area. The rooms look like something I would expect at the Mirage. Trago Bar looks nice if you want to have some drinks while playing VP. Lack of elevators and shoddy internet makes it a no-go for me right now.
The outdoor area is my favorite part! There were definitely some frustrations, but I do value its uniqueness and history.
