Citi Could Launch Two New Premium Cards

Citi Could Launch Two New Premium Cards

Citi could soon launch two new premier credit card products. In recent months, the company has applied to register two trademarks, “Citi Strata Premier” and “Citi Strata Elite”.

The “Citi Strata Elite” trademark was filed on September 8th, 2022 and then the “Citi Strata Premier” was filed on December 14, 2022. Descriptions for both trademarks suggest that these are credit card products.

Currently Citi has the Prestige card which as its most premium option, but it is no longer available for new applications since 2021. On the other hand, there’s already a Citi Premier credit card, with a $95 annual fee.

Conclusion

Citi could be looking to create a new credit card family, like Chase has done with the Sapphire cards. Citi Strata Premier could replace the Citi Premier and compete with the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. Citi Strata Elite would be the Citi Prestige replacement and compete with the Chase Sapphire Reserve and other similar products from other issuers.

It’s worth noting that just because a bank files for a trademark it’s not guaranteed that a new card is coming to the market.

  1. Instead of an additional premium personal card, we need a Citi business card which earns ThankYou points! I’m going with Chase, Amex, and CapOne for my business spend because their points can be transferred to the personal side.
