Ultra Hip Strip Suite Review, Planet Hollywood Las Vegas

I stayed at Planet Hollywood this past August while in Las Vegas (to say I am behind on reviews is an understatement).  I was in town to visit Shawn of course, and to rank & review all of the Total Rewards Diamond lounges.  This was my first time staying at Planet Hollywood (I have stayed at the attached Elara before) and I wanted to share my Ultra Hip Strip Suite review.  I will be focusing this review mainly on the room.

Planet Hollywood Ultra Hip Strip Suite Review – Location

I really love the location of the Planet Hollywood hotel in the Las Vegas.  Even though it is a little bit on the southern part of the strip it is still in the heart of things.  I probably like Paris’ location slightly better.

The nice thing with Planet Hollywood is the attached mall.  This is great since you are able to grab anything you forgot at home quickly and easily.  Having the mall attached also adds to the food options you have on top of what is located in the casino.

Planet Hollywood is one of the few free self parking locations left on the strip because of the attached mall. It only works during mall hours though.

Planet Hollywood Ultra Hip Strip Suite Review – Living Room

Ultra Hip Strip Suite Review

I received the Ultra Hip Strip Suite complimentary based on my play.  The price normally ranges in the $4-500 range depending on the day of week and time of year.  Let me say right off the bat I would never pay that much for this room. It probably ends up being around 3X the rate of the regular rooms.

The hallway was a dark color in an attempt to be sexy.  It mostly hits the mark but not as well as a place like The Cromwell does.  The doors are a light blue color which looked great against the dark wall.

Upon entering I was welcomed by the spacious living room.  There were a few chairs and a couch.  It was a nice area to lounge in or entertain in.  Located next to the entrance was a bar area with a small sink.  There was a fridge under the bar that could easily be stocked via the ABC party store in the mall.

There was a little nook filled with a desk as well that doesn’t serve much of a purpose since there is a desk in the bedroom. I noticed some stains on the furniture in the room which I found disappointing.

Each room is themed with an actor and this was Sylvester Stallone.  They had various pictures and props from his movies.  It is kind of cool, cheesy, and gimmicky all at the same time. One of the small tables in the room had his shoes from Demolition Man encased in glass.  I am not sure who wants to look at shoes but it is a piece of showbiz I guess.

Planet Hollywood Ultra Hip Strip Suite Review – Bedroom

Off to the right of the entrance is the bedroom area which was also very spacious.  There was a chair next to the bed which is most likely never used.  There is a desk on the other side of the bed which was a nice size if you had work you needed to get done.  I enjoy when the desks are full size versus an extension of the dresser/entertainment system.

The bed was comfortable but I could hardly bare to look at the tacky striped wall behind the bed. The deep purple furniture was also an eyesore.  I am sure it was very popular 15-20 years ago but it looks dated now.

The television in the room also felt very inadequate for the space of the room.  I know no one watches much TV while in Vegas but it just looked out of place.

Planet Hollywood Ultra Hip Strip Suite Review – Bathroom

The bathroom was another large and spacious room.  That is one thing I can say about this suite, there is room everywhere which is always nice.  This had to be the most dated of all of the rooms.  I feel like they may be the same finishes the old Aladdin casino and hotel had.

For how large the room was it had some of the most unremarkable tile I have ever seen.  If you are going to charge $500 plus a night for a room then spruce it up.

Conclusion

I have always enjoyed visiting, gambling, and eating at the Planet Hollywood casino and hotel in Las Vegas.  The party pit was one of the first of it’s kind in Vegas and the casino has one of the better atmosphere’s in my opinion. After my first visit to the hotel I left underwhelmed to say the least.

The room, which charges a premium, felt dated and in need of a make over.  I much preferred the Elara property on the other side of the mall.

Have you stayed at the Planet Hollywood hotel and casino in Las Vegas?  Let me know if you had a similar experience.
