United Airlines and Emirates Set to Announce Codeshare Agreement
United Airlines and Emirates are set to announce codeshare agreement in the coming weeks. All the signs are there for a major announcement on September 14, but details are scarce right now.
First, there’s a lot of love shown between the two airlines on Twitter, with a date to “hang(ar) out”. United on Tuesday also sent an invitation to reporters to a “special event” on September 14 titled “Come fly with us” with CEO Scott Kirby and Emirates President Tim Clark in Washington, as reported by Reuters. The news was also reported a few hours ago by The Air Current.
We have reached out to both United and Emirates, but they haven’t provided any additional comment regarding the agreement.
Once announced, the codeshare would allow both airlines customers to access to additional destinations that each do not currently not serve. The two airlines currently have some of the largest international networks, so this would be a major expansion of coverage.
The big three Gulf carriers, Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways, have long been at odds with the American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, the three largest airlines in the US. However, those issues have subsided since the start of the pandemic.
