United Hawaii Sale, Save 20% on Award Flights

United has an award sale today with a 20% discount on flights to Hawaii. Let’s look at the details.

The Offer

Get 20% off Saver awards flights to Hawaii if you book by 3/14/18 11:59pm CST and travel between 4/9/2018 and 5/20/2018. The promotion started yesterday for United Premier members and United credit card holders, but today it’s open to everyone.

Key Terms

  • Book by 3/14/18 11:59pm CST
  • Travel from April 8, 2018 through May 20, 2018. No blackout dates.
  • Valid for travel to/from Hawaii
  • Travel must be booked on a round-trip basis
  • Promotion is valid for United and United Express operated flights only
  • Economy cabin only
  • No stopovers are permitted

Conclusion

Saver awards flights from mainland US to Hawaii usually cost 22,500 miles one way in economy. With the United award sale, you pay only 18,000 miles plus $5.60 in taxes each way. The best value for your points will be with flights out of the East Coast. But, check the cash value of the ticket to decide for yourself whether this is a good use of your points.

If you don’t have enough United miles, you can always transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points. You can also book through Flying Blue, Korean Air SkyPass or Virgin Atlantic.

If you do take advantage of this deal, you might want to leave your dog at home and also test out this trick to earn a $1,000 voucher (YMMV).
