United Status Match and Challenge for 2020

United Airlines is offering once again a status match and challenge this year. This is a good way to get status with United for 90 days and possible extend it longer. Let’s see the details.

Status Match

If you meet the criteria to participate in the Premier status match offer, your account will be upgraded for 90 days to Premier Silver, Premier Gold or Premier Platinum status based on the level you hold in your current frequent flyer program. For example:

Status Challenge

To keep the matched Premier status for the remainder of the 2020 program year, you will need to earn a certain number of Premier qualifying flights (PQF) AND Premier qualifying points (PQP) on flights operated by United or United Express® within a 90-day Offer Period.* The number of both PQF and PQP you must earn depends on the Premier status level you are matched to in MileagePlus.

Premier Silver Fly 4 PQF and earn 1,000 PQP on flights operated by United or United Express
Premier Gold Fly 6 PQF and earn 2,000 PQP on flights operated by United or United Express
Premier Platinum Fly 10 PQF and earn 3,000 PQP on flights operated by United or United Express

To be considered for Premier status through this promotion, please complete this MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge form.

Customers who earn Premier status through this promotion will have their accounts updated in the system within five to seven business days of completion and posting of the outlined PQF and PQP requirements for the status level matched to in MileagePlus. Earned 2020 Premier status is valid through January 2021. The MileagePlus status is valid through January 2022 for customers who earn Premier status through this promotion on or after July 1, 2020.

Conclusion

If you have Delta or AA status already, then it’s easy to match to United Premier status for 90 days. Then if you think you might get some use out of the Premier status you can try fulfilling the requirement to extended it even longer. Just be aware that if you complete the challenge requirements before 7/1/, your status will expire on 1/31/21. If you complete it on or after 7/1, your status is valid until 1/31/22.
