Use Amex Cash Back for Amazon Shop with Points
Amazon announced this week that American Express Cash Back card members can now redeem American Express Reward Dollars while shopping on Amazon.com and the Amazon mobile app, as part of the Amazon Shop with Points program.
This new feature will be an option for to American Express Cash Back Card Members with the Blue Cash Everyday®, Blue Cash Preferred®, Cash Magnet®, Morgan Stanley Blue Cash Preferred®, Blue Cash®, Business Blue Cash Rebate®, Classic Blue Cash for Business®, and Platinum Business Premium Cash Rebate card. They can now redeem American Express Reward Dollars while shopping the hundreds of millions of items sold on Amazon.com and the Amazon mobile app.
With this rollout, American Express card members can simply link an enrolled, eligible American Express card to their Amazon.com account. At checkout, cardmembers select ‘Reward Dollars’ as the preferred payment method, choosing to use them to cover all or a portion of the total purchase amount. Once the order is ready to be placed, Reward Dollars that are applied to the order will be converted to dollars and deducted from the checkout total on the order summary page.
The value of Reward Dollars through the Shop with Points program is the same value as redeeming them as a statement credit today. So that mean one cent each for most American Express Cash Back card members.
While having more redemption options is always good, this is not very exciting. You can normally use Reward Dollars for statement credit which achieves the same goal. The only promising aspect here is that American Express Cash Back card members can possibly get targeted for Amazon Shop with Points promotions.
