Vegas Implosions
During the past twenty years Vegas has built its reputation on a few key things. In addition to strengthening its reign as the gambling capital of the country, Vegas is now also known for having some of the top restaurants, shopping and entertainment in the world.
There is one other thing that Vegas has become known for as well. Implosions! Starting with the Dunes in 1993, we have seen a total of 12 casinos reduced to rubble before our very eyes. The last casino to fall in this way was the New Frontier in 2007. The time has come for another!
Two Upcoming Implosions
The first upcoming implosion will be just off the strip on Convention Center Drive. The Clarion hotel/casino saw its doors shut last Labor Day. Despite surviving numerous name and ownership changes over the years, it soon will be no more.
The second implosion comes as a result of the recession. Gramercy was one of many unfinished construction projects that stopped when the economy tanked. While most of the mixed-use project has resumed construction, the 9 story partially built residential tower is too damaged to salvage.
When Will the Implosions Occur
- The Clarion will be imploded on February 10 between 2am – 3am
- The Gramercy tower will fall on February 15 at 8am!
If you are in Vegas on either of those dates, consider taking a look. Implosions can be a lot of fun!
