White House Will Open for Public Tours Next Month
The White House will once again offer public tours after pausing them for over two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These tours briefly resumed in September 2020, but were stopped soon after.
Tours of the famous building now begin again on Friday, April 15, 2022. Public tours will initially be available from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, excluding Federal holidays or unless otherwise noted.
All White House tours are free of charge and on a first come, first served basis. But to participate in a tour you must submit a request through a member of Congress and their Congressional Tour Coordinator within 21 to 90 days of the requested tour date.
There are some other rules that you should be aware of, if planning to visit teh White House. Within the 10 days prior to the public tour, anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, has had any COVID-19 symptoms, or been in close contact with someone confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19, should stay home. Face masks will not be required on these tours, but will “be available when entering the White House complex for those who choose to wear them,” the White House statement says.
The White House is the official residence and workplace of the president of the United States. It is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C.. It has been the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800.
Tours of the White House include the chance to witness history, see the China Room, the State Dining Room where formal meals with visiting heads of state are held, and much more. If you are unable to travel to Washington D.C., you can take this virtual tour instead, thanks to Google Arts & Culture.
