That Worthless Hyatt Globalist Perk May Actually Be Valuable Now

World of Hyatt Club Access Awards

I love World of Hyatt Globalist status, even though I am just a mere Globalist lite as Shawn likes to say. This is the first year I have earned the valuable status because of the requirements being cut in half (from 60 nights to 30 nights).  In the past I was always an Explorist member and that worked pretty well for me. I had my World of Hyatt Club Access awards when I wanted to use the lounge and I could get a Guest of Honor booking from a friend if I wanted the full experience.  But the deal this year was too good to pass up.  Once you become a World of Hyatt Globalist those World of Hyatt Club Access awards are almost worthless.

That is because you automatically get lounge access as a Globalist member so you can’t really use them. Well, there is one way to use them, but that is a very specific example.  They WERE almost worthless, until now at least, now you can cash them in for points!

Globalists Redeem World of Hyatt Club Access Awards For Points

Last week I had a buddy reach out and tell me about this so I decided to give it a try. I also shared it in our MtM Diamond Lounge and many of the members were able to test it out as well.

I opened up my Twitter app and fired off a quick message to the Hyatt Twitter team, who is usually pretty great (unlike IHG’s squad).  Others called the Globalist line (long wait), reached out to their concierge or messaged Hyatt via the World of Hyatt app.

After only 10 minutes I received a response to my inquiry and I was offered 500 World of Hyatt points per club access award.  I had 6 expiring on December 31, 2021 so that was a 3,000 point win!  At the time I specified 500 points because I thought that was the going rate. Others were offered up to 3,000 points per award so it looks like it varies by account.

The awards must be expiring this year for them to give you points.  My lounge access awards that expire in 2022 were left untouched. Hopefully we can do this again next year for some more bonus points!

I have seen a few reports that this could work for non Globalist members too but that has been spotty at best. Still worth a try if you have some expiring.

Remember That You Can Cash In Your Free Night Certificates

I should also post a reminder on any free night certificates you have expiring at the end of the year in your account.  We covered this a few weeks back but it is worth another mention in case you missed it.  If you have a category 1-4 free night certificate World of Hyatt will give Globalist members (and maybe everyone) 10,000 points for it if you are unable to use it. They may also extend it 6 months if you prefer that instead. They offer 20,000 points for a category 1-7 free night certificate or offer to extend it as well.

Suite Upgrade Certificates Extensions

World of Hyatt is also offering an extension of 6 months for some on any expiring suite upgrade rewards. My buddy was offered to turn 3 expiring awards into one that is good for 12 more months instead of 6 months for each.  Most would prefer the simple six month extension so ask for that if you are offered the combination and one year extension instead.

World of Hyatt Club Access Awards – Final Thoughts

I am pretty happy, and surprised, Hyatt was willing to give points for my World of Hyatt club access awards.  They are not really worth anything to Hyatt Globalist members since they already get lounge access so this was a generous offer.  Getting 3,000 World of Hyatt points for them is like a $45 present I wasn’t expecting this holiday season. Although, it looks like I could have gotten way more if I was lucky.

I am glad to see extensions offered on free night certificates and suite upgrade certificates.  Although some may prefer to simply take the points instead on the free night certs. I have been tempted myself in the past but I used the last of mine to book my new favorite Hyatt category 4 for next summer.

  1. Through the app, I got 3,000 each for 4 club awards expiring 12/31. I was told I would have to call to ask about the suite awards being extended.

  2. I see your add for the Capital One card, but I have been denied twice and I have an 850 credit score and zero debt. What’s the trick?
