World of Hyatt Credit Card $15K Free Night Time Frame

I signed up for the World of Hyatt credit card shortly after it came out.  It is one of the better cards on the market right now in my opinion. I even called it the new King of hotel credit cards in my review.

One of the better perks of the card is the category 1-4 free night you get after spending $15,000 within a cardmember year.  I have made the claim that everyone who has the card should put at least $15,000 of spend on the card each year.  That would give people around a 3.5% return on their non bonus spend (based on 1.8 cents per point).  I just received my free night and wanted to share the time frame.

My Timeline

I completed the $15,000 in spend sometime in mid to late November.  My statement with the spend on it didn’t close until December 17th.  The free night confirmation was emailed to me on December 19th.

This time frame leads me to believe that the free night is not triggered until the statement cuts.  This is also in line with how the welcome bonus is paid out as well as the two elite night credits for spending $5000.

Conclusion

As you can see the free night comes within a few days of your statement cutting, once the spend is complete.  That is a great turnaround and blows Amex out of the water.  You should have to wait at most 4 weeks but as little as a few days for the free night.  It all depends on how close to your statement date you complete the spend.

If you wanted to plan it right and complete the spend in your 11th or 12th month of your cardmember year you could line it up to have 2 free night certificates each year.  Since it would pair up with the one you get each year on your anniversary.

  1. Do you think it’s worth it for me to cancel and re apply for the new version or just keep what I have?
We use Hyatt quite a bit.
    TIA

    • I think the new card is better. If you are under 5/24 and you have had the old one for over 24 months then I think it is worth signing up for. 60K points is a pretty valuable bonus. If the answer to either of those questions is no then you could always take the small 2,000 point upgrade offer just to get the better card.

  2. Good to know in case I ever upgrade. When I upgraded to the Hilton Aspire, the free night did not come until the 60th day and by then it was too late to pair it up with the Aspire resort credit.

    • The Aspire free nights take way to long to get issued imo. When I completed the 15K in spend on the Ascend card that came within a few days though which I found interesting.

  3. Hi! I completed 15k spend back in April.
I did not know about this opportunity.
Where would the free night cert. show up or appear so I can go retrieve it?
    Thanks!

    • It would show up on your Hyatt account under awards. This is only for the new World of Hyatt card and not the old Hyatt card though.
